New here but was told to stop by form JD of Immacula so Hi

I decided to give loading Windows 7 a go on OCZ Core Series V2 SATA II 2.5" SSD (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/flash_drives/ocz_core_series_v2_sata_ii_2_5-ssd) so here's my experience.

Downloaded Windows 7 ISO file from Microsoft and converted it using Nero.

Plugged in the OCZ SSD and disabled Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) in the BIOS as apparently it results in conflicts between the controller and the drive that are apparent as sluggish overall system performance.

Troubleshooting - Installing and configuring your new OCZ SSD (http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40561)

Configuring and setting up SSD's (http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40561)

To be fair, i did run into a few problems with my CD ROM not reading the Windows 7 image properly but swapped ROM's and tried a different DVD media worked a treat.
The whole loading process took around 10 to 15 minutes followed by a further 3 or 4 minutes of downloading updates with a couple of restarts in between.

First thoughts are that it lightning fast but not sure if that's Windows or the SSD but it all seems to be working fine and it found my network straight away which is always something i have trouble with in Vista for some reason but yeah, i quite like the over all look and feel though its still got that "Do You Really Want To Allow That ProgramTo Do That?? box appearing every time you want to do something which i find so annoying.

FIX - "start" + type "run" + type "msconfig" + click last tab "Tools" + scroll down to "Disable UAC" + click "apply" button.

Just updated nVidia GX2 drivers to pre-release WDDM 1.1 whatever they are so will load Grid and see what that's like.

Oh, where my Favourites gone............i see on the other side now
I guess it will take a little setting up to the way i like things but quite impressed so far.

Anyway, i've read so much about this infamous stutter that SSD's have and all the tweaks and fixes but i must be one of the lucky ones as there is no sign of even the slightest stutter what so ever so not sure if that is due to it being the V2 version SSD or Windows 7 or what but nothing bad in that department to report.
For more information on tweaks and SSD set-up look no further than OCZ Forums (http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=186) which seem to have most things covered.

I'll keep playing and report back with any issues i come across with either the SSD's or Windows 7 but all good at present :)

UAC isnt as bad on 7 as it was with Vista, plus im using 7 so little that ive kept it on.

On another side note, you must have spent a pretty penny on that 64Gig? ssd?

Luckily im building a case mod for CeBit and OCZ were kind enough to sponsor me got a couple of OCZ Core Series V2 SATA II 2.5" SSD (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/flash_drives/ocz_core_series_v2_sata_ii_2_5-ssd)'s and 3x2GB OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Platinum Low-Voltage Triple Channel (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr3_pc3_10666_platinum_low_voltage_triple_cha nnel) which i was obviously over the moon about

Is it worth changing from vista yet for a full time OS?

I'd be interested to know what chipset's on the mobo.

Its currently dangling from a Skulltrail board at the minute just to see if it worked but will be putting both in raid 0 on a Smackover once i get that system up and running.

.......if that helps

you can go into the security options and lower the UAC nag rate without turning it off completley and losing it's protective features.

Win7 is heaps faster than Vista, it is easier on system resources like it does not constantly pole USB ports stuff. It uses less power as it is more intelligent like - on laptops it will see the wireless is on and switch off the lan port. It has a smaller footprint so takes up less disk space. It has a completley new indexing system so can search for files on the system quicker, the new indexing system also searches deeper whilst spending less time accessing the HDD.

It is also optimised for SSDs (and that I feel is an upgrade most of us will be making over the next 12 months). It is more secure, has better connectivity options and is lighter and smarter OS than anything Microsoft has produced before.

Well worth a look.

Whens win7 out on general release? Would it be worth getting it straight away after launch or waiting a bit?

I've been running the public BETA since the day it came out and I have a few problems, for example I can't click on any icons or my task bar after a while, have to hit ctrl alt del, double click on task manager and that gets it going again. Nothing to serious and I'm sure it'll get sorted with future updates.

I'd say it is worth upgrading to. It is so much better than Windows Vista.

Still some more SSD optimisations due before final release, so should improve with age ;)

Actually, you're probably not. The latest is 7057 which is far from a RC AFAIK.

I've had some odd bugs with 7000, there was a point, that I can not move/close/maximise the windows... hope that gets fixed in RTM, till then, I'm not going anywhere near 7 again, vista w/ SP2 RTM is just fine for me.

7057 is apparently a daily build, it seems fairly buggy to me

I've been running 7057 X64 for over a week as my main OS and it's perfectly stable as far as I can tell. Had no issues at all. And it loves my SSD..:rocker:
