New here but was told to stop by form JD of Immacula so Hi
I decided to give loading Windows 7 a go on OCZ Core Series V2 SATA II 2.5" SSD (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/flash_drives/ocz_core_series_v2_sata_ii_2_5-ssd) so here's my experience.
Downloaded Windows 7 ISO file from Microsoft and converted it using Nero.
Plugged in the OCZ SSD and disabled Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) in the BIOS as apparently it results in conflicts between the controller and the drive that are apparent as sluggish overall system performance.
Troubleshooting - Installing and configuring your new OCZ SSD (http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40561)
Configuring and setting up SSD's (http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40561)
To be fair, i did run into a few problems with my CD ROM not reading the Windows 7 image properly but swapped ROM's and tried a different DVD media worked a treat.
The whole loading process took around 10 to 15 minutes followed by a further 3 or 4 minutes of downloading updates with a couple of restarts in between.
First thoughts are that it lightning fast but not sure if that's Windows or the SSD but it all seems to be working fine and it found my network straight away which is always something i have trouble with in Vista for some reason but yeah, i quite like the over all look and feel though its still got that "Do You Really Want To Allow That ProgramTo Do That?? box appearing every time you want to do something which i find so annoying.
FIX - "start" + type "run" + type "msconfig" + click last tab "Tools" + scroll down to "Disable UAC" + click "apply" button.
Just updated nVidia GX2 drivers to pre-release WDDM 1.1 whatever they are so will load Grid and see what that's like.
Oh, where my Favourites gone............i see on the other side now
I guess it will take a little setting up to the way i like things but quite impressed so far.
Anyway, i've read so much about this infamous stutter that SSD's have and all the tweaks and fixes but i must be one of the lucky ones as there is no sign of even the slightest stutter what so ever so not sure if that is due to it being the V2 version SSD or Windows 7 or what but nothing bad in that department to report.
For more information on tweaks and SSD set-up look no further than OCZ Forums (http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=186) which seem to have most things covered.
I'll keep playing and report back with any issues i come across with either the SSD's or Windows 7 but all good at present :)
