I am with NTL as my ISP using a belkin wireless router, if i change IPS that uses ADSL (BT line) can i just buy an ADSL modem with a Ethernet port on it and plug it into my router. to save me buying a new ADSL wireless router.

With Thanks

Paul

Technically yes, but i have never seen a stand alone ADSL modem with ethernet port. I have only ever seen USB ones, so i cannot confirm for sure if it would work or what the requirements are for that type of unit.

yep they exist, and they have both USB and network ports. But if I were you, i'd buy a proper router/firewall for literally a few pennies more, then you'll retain a firewalled connection.

a 30 second google - but as you can see from the price, go for a router again!

Coops, you REALLY need to check the warehouse bud.

I'm currently using a Linsys ADSL2+ Modem, comes with sockets for eitehr USB or Etehrnet connection. Good for upto 25Mb/s connections and above with the appropriate firmware uphgrade.

I was'nt saying they did'nt exist. I know they do. :) It just personally i have never seen one, played with one, configured one, Thus as i said technicaly yes it would work as described but i could not comment on setup of said configuration.

Maybe i was not clear :)

However i would also suggest buying router with modem already built in.

If anything it would be so much easier.

I know mate, i thought as much but had to give you a ribbing anyway

Data, If you wish to retain your wireless connection, and just ad a modem to it, then either of the Modems shown here will suit you.

Your best bet would be the Linksys I'd say.
Linksy http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... LIN-ADSL2M (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?LIN-ADSL2M)

Just what model of Wireless router are you using, and how does it connect to your NTL line, is it via coaxial connection or via a phone point?

If its one that is using a phone line for the incomming internet, then you won't need a new modem I'd guess.

Can you confirm this little point please so we can give you clear advice and prevent any wasted money on your part. 8)

NTL use Cat5 ethernet straight off the back of one of there STB or via ethernet from a cable modem connected to the coaxial TV port

Right

That will connect to any ADSL modem with no problems (based on the info at belkin http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductP ... _Id=184371 (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=184371)).

As its got a built in firewall, a basic ADSL2+ modem (to make it future proof against the higher speeds soon to be available) such as the linksys one that novatech can supply will be fine for you. Or when you get round to chaning your ISP, 99% of them will supply you 1 as opposed to a basic USB modem for a small fee (nominally aropund the £30 mark if not a little more or less).

Or you could go for the linksys or something similar which you've researched for yourself and made your mind up on at your own pace.
