Recently the Power source of my External WD Elements HDD simply broke. I know the data is still there because luckily my cousin had his HDD and a plug so I could test it.
I've been on at WD for a new plug and I still have no reply, does anyone know where I might get one or indeed, has a spare one lying around? I have coursework needed to be handed in and commercially unavaliable episodes of MST3K to watch =(

Have you tried looking through the maplin catalogue to see ifthey have something you can utilise?
Possibly even cut the old one off, and buy a replacement plug and solder a new one on?

Electronics by Joe: A fail waiting to happen.
Not possible. I don't have any skill in such a thing...
No guarantee's on this !!
The drive you have looks just like an old WD Caddie I had with nice neon lights in terms of its back plate connections.
the PSU of that is actually interchangeable with my ICYBOX which again is a drive caddie.
Therefore.... I think they may all use a std multipin connector so this link could be what your after....

Though considering that price... might be worth considering a complete Caddie system from Nova ...

and swap over the drive into the new caddie.

K, no problem. Had to ask.
With that in mind, I think the best bet if you can't source a new power supply is to try taking the drive from the caddy as PMM is suggesting. Do you feel confident in going down that route??

Actually that plug looks almost identical to the Elements one anyway...
Maybe it would work without any changing?

Yeah it's definitely JUST the plug. Well I'd best dig out some money and hope it works...
Heh... buying my nova PC has left me with a single pound in my bank...

No I'll just be getting the plug http://www.iconuk.co.uk/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=1444&P_ID=3502
UNLESS Nova happens to have such a plug in stock...

Well my plug arrived today! It's nice, shiny and Chinese but for some reason came from The Netherlands.
What a great gift for Inauguration Day.
