My Novatech-purchased PSU died in six weeks, it took me a fortnight to get an RMA and now they've been sitting on it for another fortnnight despite an estimate of five days to replace it.

Furthermore that PSU was nothing like the sales description, which still hasn't changed despite my protest and censored attempt to lodge a review.

All in all, this experience has changed me from a Novatech fan to someone very unlikely to use them again.

Things rarely go wrong, but in my view it's ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to show willing when they do.

In this case feet-dragging over a £24 power supply has probably cost thousands in near future business.

Sort the cutomer support out!

I'm very sorry to hear of this, it doesn't sound like usual practice for a return to drag out so long :?

Please email me direct at david.thompson@novatech.co.uk so I can investigate this myself.

Again, my apologies for the delay you have experienced with this order.

Theres not exactly a huge amount of info in the description of the item to get wrong:

Upgrade your power supply to support the latest processors and power more devices and peripherals from your PC. 550W ATX Power Supply for AMD, P3 and P4 mainboards.

Measures 15cm(W) x 8.5cm(H) x 14cm(D).

or was the info from over the phone? looks like its had some good reviews too, but dare i say it, its is a sub £20 psu... I wouldn't exactly expect a ferrari on a lada budget. Non-branded gear tends to be cheaper because the QC is more... leniant, and more problems are likely to get through to the end user unfortunately.

That said 2 weeks for an rma number and 2 weeks in returns is a long time - I'm sure this will get resolved ow its been highlighted to David T.

Shame on you for wasting money on something like that, I haven't even looked at the novatech site yet, but from the code i know its blingy and gold and probably has 2 80mm fans on it.

Heh

Just looed and yup, it is (well inthe picture anyway)

Ok, recriminations and fun poking aside. Once you get that replaced, consider if you can afford it, spending a little more for a PSU that will last you longer and not be prone to the *Q-Tec* syndrome (e.g. cheap, nasty and liable to die expensively after a short time).

Does the rest of your machine still work do you know, or have you not had a spare or old PSU to put in its place?

If you've not had time to do this, please do as when a PSU dies, it normally takes something with it when by sending a power surge (very short in duration but often enoug to do damage) which blows either the motherboard, the cpu and even sometimes a both or other components within the system.

This is true.

Well that was my point - the PSU actually supplied wasn't gold or twin-fan :-)

There are those of us with near to zero budgets, and when a PSU goes are forced to find a cheap replacement pronto.

Yes, I had a spare, but it was allowing the CPU to get hotter than I really liked.

Also as it happens I've had a lot of experience with cheap power supplies over the years, and they're mostly OK. They don't kill the motherboards when they die and replacing them is cheap and easy.

However this time around I was seduced by the prospect of a cheap *and* quiet PSU. Silly me!

Thanks for lighting a fire David, because I got the replacement CPU yesterday.

Just in time actually as my emergency standby PSU failed today and so without it I would be without PSU or means to order a new one.

So thanks again, even if it is still Silent on the box and rather noisy in reality...
