I have a 2 year old novatech laptop, yesterday it would not boot up except in Safe Mode. I tried all the other options, but it just crashed everytime. I therefore put in the Novatech recovery cd. This told me to use the cd I would need to restart and boot from the cd. So I did this, the CD then runs through some blue screens formating the partition and reinstalling XP it then, and restarts the computer. However as soon as it gets to the XP loading screen it shows the following errors;
0x00000024 or 0x00000050
and it tells me to do a CHKDSK, however I can never do a CHKDSK, as it will never let me get near a command prompt? Is this being caused by a faulty Novatech recovery CD? or is it something else?

sounds like a bad hard disk.

Update: Novatech sent out a replacement recovery disc. I used this and it reinstalled windows without a problem. So it looks as if the old disc was part of the problem, however now windows is reinstalled the original problem (The reason for using the reovery disc) remains. Windows will only start up in SAFE mode. It will not start up normally. I have run a CHKDSK and it says that everything is OK. I am now stumped? Is it still likely to be the harddisc, or is is something more?
Get hold of a copy of memtest86 and try that (free download)

I did the memory test, and there were no problems. I am going to try a new harddisk and hope that solves the problem!!
Will keep fingers crossed. We go through laptop HD's like anything at work, they are usually the first item to go due to the moving parts and people chucking them around in bags/dumping on desks :(

New HD same fault :(
I'm running out of ideas!!! I need the laptop back in operation as I run a business using it, and the VAT return needs to be completed by the end of the month!!

go to your C:\ and copy these files: "boot.ini" "NTLDR" and "NTDETECT.com" copy them to a floppy disk (make sure its formated) when you have done that insert it and reboot and you should be able to boot in to xp normaly (make sure your first boot device is set to Floppy or removeable device should work
