Hey all,

I have the chance to get an Xbox 360 Premium Pack from where I work for £260.54. I'm in a tizzwozz about whether or not to go for it. I have a PS2, and a PC, but am just wondering if it's worth going for it? I don't have a HDTV in my bedroom, only an old Panasonic 14", but we do have a 32" LG in the living room.

The only times I have played on a 360 was at kisos in some shops. I played CoD2, but have bought that for the PC, and I played Burnout (Not sure which one) and liked it. I could just do with some opinions and comments on the console in general, if possible?

Cheers,

Karl :)

Personally i'm not a console man, apart from gran turismo...

you should get one. i got mine about 6 months ago and i cant stop playing it. burnout revenge is amazing, you should also check out fight night round 3 and rockstar table tennis.

if you get one i would recommend spending another £20 and getting a VGA cable so you can play it in hi def thought your monitor.

they look good on a normal tv but look amazing in hi def. when i got my vga cable it was the best £20 spent in a long time.

I'm guessing GT won't be seen on the Xbox coz of Sony being in the production of it? I have GT2, 3 and 4, and want to get the next, but at the moment, I can't see myself buying the PS3 when it's said to cost ~£425!

I just need to clarify - Does the VGA cable allow a HD output from the Xbox onto a normal (non HD) PC screen? Will I notice a difference on a 15" TFT?

the vga cable does output a hi def signal to the monitor. any svga monitor can display the hi def signal form the vga cable.

when you have the cable if you go into the 360 settings page under display it lists all the available resolutions.

640x480
848x480 (widescreen)
1024x768
1280x720 (widescreen) 720p
1280x768 (widescreen)
1280x1024
1360x768 (widescreen)

you can then choose the higest your monitor supports. on a 15" TFT you should be able to to do 1024 X 768 and maybe 1280 X 1024. At home i run my 360 on a 19" Sony TFT and it looks amazing.

on your 15"TFT you will notice a big difference compared to a TV. i personelly would rather run a 360 on a 15" TFT over any non hdtv.

a review of the cable can be found here.

Looks very interesting. I have a dual monitor setup, with an LG L1510T as the primary, and a Dell 15" (I don't know the Model#, it came with my first PC back in 2003, a Dim.2350) As I use the Dell a lot as a second monitor, can I plug a VGA cable from my PC and the VGA cable for the 360 into a KVM and have it to switch between the PC and 360? The KVM I have is a Belkin.

Cheers! :)

Alright, cheers Danno. I guess I'll be getting a little bundle from work soon then!

Whilst on the talk of the 360, does anyone know of a Tourist Trophy rival for it? Or just a bike racer that has the Nordshliefe (sp?) in it? I like the idea of bombing round the Nordschliefe (sp?) on a bike instead of in my Skyline or Buick Special as I do on GT4.

the only bike game i have seen on the 360 is moto gp 06. i dont know what tracks it has but it looks quite good.

What would be the advantage of using this sorta thing for PS2 or GC? AFAIK, they don't do HD, do they?

Just though I could connect it to my monitor rather than tv.

Kool. On a side note, can a Sky Box (Sky+ in particular) be connected using the AV cables? (Red White and Yellow, I think, but I'm Colourblind so the yellow and white look the same  )

It is do-able with the PS2, as I had it like that a year or so ago...I guess I'll have to see what google can tell me...

After a quick Google, it seems I can. Theres composite (I know the name now :D ) cables on eBay and the ads say about plasma to sky box, so I guess it will work.

Just got home with my shiny new 360! :D

I bought Burnout Revenge with it, and have to say its ace so far. I'm just waiting on my dad getting the KVM switch out of the loft before I hook it upto my monitor for HD :D

My Dad found the KVM switch in the loft, and I went to set it up.

Moved my 360 to a better place, put the monitor cable into the KVM...then EEK! The ports on the back of the KVM for the PCs are male, and so is the connector on the VGA cable for the 360. Do I need a gender changer or have I just gone into panic mode and overlooked something?

yes you do, i completely forgot about the gender changer. when i got mine i had exactly the same problem. you should be able to get one for a few pound form somewhere like maplin's.

we stock them at novatech but dont have any in at the moment.

Ok, ta. I think we stock them where I work too.

Btw - Do you have a 4:3 ratio screen? If so, have you fallen prey to the X360 Annoyance #016 (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/10/the-xbox-360-vga-cable-has-width-issues-xbox-360-annoyan)? I have, and it is **** annoying. TDU now has black bars! :(

Danno
31-07-2006, 08:13 AM
yeah, thats happened to me. when i play PGR3 i have to set the dash board to 1024 X 768 or the screen gets super stretched.

the black bars along the top and bottom dont bother me to much. i would rather have the black bars and HD rather than having to play on a normal TV.

DogsiWoo

I agree. I've stuck with the black bars because a vertically stretched Lotus Exige just looks plain weird. I'm still gonna get TDU though; have it on preorder and can't wait! :D

360's are good. If it was me, id get it. Id reccommend you buy PGR3. I think its one of the best games on the 360 atm, and if you plug it into the internet, u can download new cars aswell. Id like a DS just to get the memory game ( played it in GAME fareham ), but unfortunately im buildin my pc so cant afford it :(

Went a bit offtopic at the end but just thought id say it anyway
