If i send my tv back for the firmware upgrade, will that make the DVI port HDCP compliant? So in theory it'll work with SKY HD and a Playstation 3 connected via a HDMI to DVI lead? Or am i wrong?

Cheers

AV320W firware upgrade addresses particular issues not related to the Sky HD problems with 37/42 inch product.

Specifically,

the picture is displaced to the right when in the HD mode. This is intermittant and dependant on a multitude of factors including resolution.

unit goes into sleep mode when in HD input

no video on HD in some circumstances

white balance can spontaneously shift causing a colour cast to come over the screen.

These should allow the unit to function as advertised. Compatibility with specific items of equipment from other manufacturers can never be guaranteed since they may have compatibility issues unknown to us. This is especially true of any item which has come to market since the AV320W model was originally released.

It will always be the case that what you buy today may well need upgraded depending on what you buy tomorrow.

I have just received my 32" ATEC HD lcd TV back from Amkotron after 13 days (9 workimg days). This has now a serious SOUND problem,i.e. white noise which gets louder the longer it is switched on, so Amkotron are sending a courier again on Mon.14th for repair.
I connected an HDMI to DVI cable, not cheap from Maplins, and I got a message on screen (SKY HD): THIS (DEVICE) IS NOT HDCP COMPATIBLE. PLEASE DISCONNECT THE HDMI CABLE.
It looked OK on component.
I'll post a message in 2 weeks IF I get the TV back in full working order!

There were a series of unlocked threads combining the information from the various locked ones, but they disappeared somehow.

Stuclemit,

did the hdcp warning come up when you had both component and dvi plugs in? All sky boxes will come up with that error if you are using component and have the hdmi lead plugged in....to remove the error only use the plugs you are using to carry the sky hd signal.
I've had my 32" Atec back for about 2 months and it's great...i'm just waiting for the dvi switch boxes to come down in price a little!!!

Thanks for the thought!
I have just temporarily unpacked the tv and only plugged the HDMI to DVI lead in. Setting the source to DVI brings up "OUT OF RANGE" message!
Re-packed it for its hols (again) to Amkotron!!!

Sounds like the Sky box was set to 1080i, which the tv doesn't supoort through DVI (you may have to connect via component when your tv returns to set it back to 720p).
Hope your tv comes back quickly, cos the picture is superb.

Good luck. :)

Got my tv back today and spent quite a bit of time playing around with the settings.
When the HDMI to DVI cable is connected I get the message
"THIS DISPLAY DOES NOT SUPPORT HDCP. CALL 8702404020 FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
PLEASE DISCONNECT YOUR HDMI CONNECTION"
This pops up whatever the setting. If I switch to DVI I get an "OUT OF RANGE" message.
I have tried 576, 720p and 1080i settings and get the same message (component connected or not).
I now have an HD picture on component, so thats it for me.
I've only got a redundant HDMI to DVI cable and I'm a bit fed up after nearly three months of emails, telephone calls and two trips to Amkotron for the tv!
Let me say , though that I have always been satisfied with the tv as regards non HD, its only when I had SKY HD installed that I had any problems.
Stu.

I hope someone can sort you out with the DVI/ HDCP problem mate. Glad you can get a picture thru component though. I personally can't tell the difference between the comp/dvi picture..both good. Have heard that you wont lose anything for a while wrt HDCP as wont be brought in for a few years.

Have you managed to get anything else to work through the dvi socket (pc, dvd player, etc)?

No.....everything else is non DVI, DVD recorder/player etc.
I'm satisfied with the picture on component connection and non HD channels look better than before, but thanks for your thoughts.
