Ok picked up the TRUE blk hsf today and have been playing all night, this seems to be the best i can do but it rebooted after about 30 mis of prime95
40

It really dont like going past 3.6ghz this chip even though its low vid of 1.23v it's stable at 3.6ghz at 1.39v but anymore and that it craves super 1.55 volts and even then isnt 100%.
Using the supplied chilled factor thermal paste gonna swap it for AC5 when i can be bothered to remove the mobo again to sort it. Any thoughts from you you lot for an improvement would be most welcome etc, was really aiming for 3.8ghz but dont look like its gonna happen.

If you havent already you might need to lap the bottom, as if i remember right these are flat. That would knock a few degrees off.

I doesnt seem to heat that is the problem but a few less degrees is always nice obviously, but no not lapped as yet .
What seetings is your 3.8 what cooler etc?

It might well be that the cpu doesnt want to go any higher than 3.6 without massive volts, which if i remember right i have seen with a few other peoples computers. On another note i really want a TRUE so i can get some decent temps to overclock with my Q6600..oh and some better ram :p

Temps aren't an issue here. I assume you are running 4x1GB sticks of Crucial Ballistix memory? If so have you allowed for this by upping your Northbridge voltage to accommodate for the overclock?

My q6600 won't reach 3.6 regardless. With a VID of 1.325 I wasn't really expecting it to though..

Yeah added a little bit to the NB but its ok at 3.6 with no adjustments at all but when it wasnt stable at 3.8 iupped them a little but made no difference, may try and reduce the tiings on the ram to see if that helps, as yes im on 4x1g sticks

Have you tried FSB: DRAM of 1: 1, Jonny?

Don't lose much really. You can tighten the timings to make up for it a bit.

I dont get that option on this board i get the options of different speeds, like i can choose 800mhz 1066mhz same as the the ratios but converted into the actual speed it would be as it were, get 5-6 options to choose from. So i could drop it way below stock 1066 if i wanted.

I thought you'd signed off for the night, Jonny Boy. :D

You should have a synchronous option to run the CPU at FSB 1600 and the memory at DDR2-800.

It's meant to be most stable. Dunno really. Never done it.

Nah still here my friend, got terrible toothache so not much chance of sleep tonight lol. Might try in a bit though. Yeah that option is there for 800mhz, ive got it at fsb 1600 and 1066 at 1.4v at the moment and its rock solid with very good temps, but was kinda hoping to push a little further but this chip seems to hit a wall at past this which is a disappointment considering its low vid.

Jonny, you want to upp the VTT and NB volts.. that should get you what you are after.. Ive gone past 3.6 with mine thanks to them with 1.45v

im not sure how far you should go.. I would give you the volts I use, but my NB is different to yours :(

Yeah mine runs hot as you like on standard settingswhen i get my new case there is a fix for nb temps so i will remove the heatsinks and apply better tim and better srcews to improve cooling

I did that to mine, got an extra 5 or so degrees out of it :)

Nice worth doing i know, got no settings for vtt what esle could it be called.

Erm.. FSB? PLL? one of them.. try 1.4v

The cpu pll is set to 1.584v as standard

Try FSB or something like that then? also try NB up a few notches

Jonny2Bad

Yeah the nb is 1.36 standard and currently set to 1.47 so plenty there already or do you reckon it would need more?

hmm :S If it sets stuff automatically, its normally not that great.. Try setting all the settings manually. Do a google for Rampage Formula 400fsb

That is a manual setting ;) you know me better than that tek lol

ahh, Not sure what else Ive changed tbh...

1st - Intel = best suited to Async settings & AMD = best suited to Sync'd settings.
Northbridge strap under extreme tweaker menu will play a big part in what ratios are on offer.

2nd - Extreme tweaker has the mentioned settings teknokid talks about.

Dram Controller voltage ref = VTT - TBH its best kept auto and allowed to auto track, its will be half the Dram voltage.

CPU PLL can make a big difference worth changing
CPU spread spectrum make sure that is disabled
PCIE spread spectrum make sure that is disabled

Ok cool cheers PMM I think i've already done all those already, not sure about the northstrap though.

Any thoughts on what the nb strap should be set at i've got it at 400mhz :?

PMM
24-01-2009, 01:58 PM
I use 400 TBH

I think you might have to use 333 to get 1:1 setting but I find 400 suits my system better for the DDR3 ram I have as its a little bit temperamental.

Jonny2Bad
24-01-2009, 02:01 PM
Ok setting it to that has limited my ram settings some what though lol
