Updating old system!

HI,
I`m new to building my own system but would like to give it a go :shock:.
I need to replace my old setup with something a bit more modern, after looking at new systems I have decided to have a go myself.
I am thinking of a Q9550 system comprising of:-

Novatech bare bones bundle q9550, 2gb ram 800mhz!,intel p45MBU, 6 bay atx case,530W PSU.
With
2 x samsung F1 1TB hard drives in Raid ? to mirror each other.
Asus 22" monitor
Novatech ati4850 512mb graphics card.
Will 2GB ram be sufficient and what operating system would you run with this setup?

Is this all compatible with each other and can you please tell me if i have missed anything out .

2g is fine if your going to run xp but not for vista really 4g is better for vista. Its all in order though nice setup.

I currently use XP 32bit, would I be better with XP pro in 64 bit as future proofing my new system.
New computers are way ahead of me, my system is a amd athlon 1.53mhz with 512mb of ram

No stick with xp 32 till windows 7 is released later this year. And boy oh boy will you notice the difference in that new monster rig.

Will the new windows 7 be a 64 bit OS?
I am wondering if I might be better putting 4 gb in when I build.

yeah either 32 or 64, 4g is nice but matching the ram isnt always the easiest so better to buy 2x 2g modules, but then its best to buy your motherboard and cpu and ram seperate and put it togther yourself,
