View Full Version : Filezilla and FTP
Hi,
I have been trying to set up a FTP server on a spare PC.The Pc was connected to my Netgear Router WPN824.
I installed filezilla on this PC,followed all instructions, but I could not connect to this PC.
I used port 21,the PC with filezilla stated it was connected, but like I said I could not connect to with my IP address FTP://???.???.??.??
I tried to set up port forwarding on the router ,I'm sure it was set correctly. Can anyone offer any advice on how set an FTP server up with port forwarding please.
Thanks

I can't help much but seeing as your question has gone a day...
How are these PCs connected. on a LAN?
I use port forwarding for external connections. eg. If someone on the Internet requests http://www.mydomain.com, my router needs to know how to deal with a request using port 80. In my example, it forwards this to IP 192.168.0.5 on my LAN, this being the PC running the web server. It is not used for connections within the LAN.
Some ideas you may have gone through but have you checked:
You do have a working network with the PCs? ,eg. does a ping work?
Can you access ftp from the ftp server PC?
Are there any firewalls that may be blocking things?
Jon's covered the biggies, i'd also try ftp'ing to it from within your LAN. Diagnosing network probs remotely, once the major things are tried, is very tough... I try and avoid it :D

Not sure I've been there and I don't fancy the thoughts... Use dial up network on the laptop to be "remote" / the other side of the router sat maybe 6' away is something I have needed to do a couple of times though.

Hello...
What are you using for your FTP Server?
I once spent AGES troubleshooting my FTP Server (Driven by FREENAS)... It would not work due to a <SPACE> in my Workgroup name!! Once removed, my Netgear router had no problems with the Incoming FTP requests.
The more info you give me, the more I can chew on to get this fixed :)
Hi Kevstar,
I hope the following is of help to you?.
I use filezilla on my main PC which is connected to my Netgear router WPN824,which in turn is connected to my Virgin cable modem.
I have created a FTP folder to share with the user accounts I have created.
Port forwarding as been enabled on the router.
I access the FTP folder via my IP address FTP:/##########
Monday I was able to access the folder, great I thought, but since then no luck.
My IP is dynamic, but it has remained the same since I started this .
If you require any more info please ask.
Thank you
