Hi all,

I have x2 Sata hard drives (300gb seagate primary 250gb secondary). I've had an external hard drive for years, I decided to plug it in the other day but couldn't find any of the wires. In the end I decided to open the external hard drive case to get the actual hard drive out and install it into my system (as a normal drive).

I noticed it was an old ATA type, so I plugged it in and took the jumper out of Master and kept it out. Fired the system up, but it seems to think that the ATA is the primary drive and keeps asking me to Reboot with a Media Device or something. - I've tried putting the jumper to Master and Slave (just to see if it made any difference)

How do I get the system to make the old ATA drive a 3rd drive, so I can just look at whats on the drive?

It's a Seagate 120gb Ultra ATA 7200 drive - Running Vista Premium SP1

Thanks in advance!

B

You'll need to head into the BIOS (when starting up system check to see which button to press)

Change the order of the HDD.

PS What mobo do you have?

I'm sure mithrandir's bios boot order setting will sort this out, but would keep the jumper on MA or CSel anyway. Drive will behave better. :D

cable select is the lazy option :D (ie the one i'd choose!)
