Do the devilmay cry and stalker also buddy because that xterrain isnt showing your new pc in a great light ;) The other 2 will be far more suited to the new system. Also why did you go for 2x9800gt in such a high system?

I was wondering that. Would have gone for e a 260 at the least.

At the recent prices a 280 would have been ideal.

The worst mistake I've made, should have gone for 1x280, then a second later if needed or when the prices drop.
Thanks for moving to right thread, Ill get the hang of it.

Always the way, mate. You will often find yourself buying something, then, it will go down in price, or, something better will go down to an affordable price about a week later.

I'm new to buying, my last PC lasted 10 years, see my post in PC pre-builds. ( FINALLY DONE IT)

If its new why not return then under the DSA for a full refund and buy a faster single card?

I'm a disabled wheelchair user & would have to pay someone to come in & do the boxing up for me, also I've used the PC now.

I see well the rest of your rig is really decent and its a easy upgrade in the future once ur current cards start struggling.

Well lesson learned there i guess, well they still peform well in games that have good sli support so its not a terrible mistake, its just that system needs sooo much more lol to really shine or let the pwer of the cpu match the the gpu's.

Well yesterday was my first time benchmarking, as you can see today's try was a little better.
I think I'm getting the idea , I did'nt realise you had to alter a few settings. Please compare for me J2B let me know if this is bit nearer to whats expected. Can allways try a pair 260/280.:-)

On this benchmark its very cpu intensive so an overclock on the i7 cpu would be a massive help, try the devil my cry benchmark or the stalker 1 for better results, and yeah a pair of 260's or 4870's would be far better and suited to the capalilties of your rig tbh.

You should also run that benchmark with a 1280x1024 resolution, Erphy. That's the res everyone else has used and it'd be a better comparison for your system. I reckon you'd get around 70fps with that res. With an overclock and a couple of 260s, depending on the overclock, I reckon you could get up to the 100fps mark, no probs.
Also, post your results here - http://forum.novatech.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5314

Nice new sig.
Would you mind letting me know the lenght of your G11 as room on my desk shelf slider is a bit tight, I want to leave as much space as pos for my mouse.

Thanks for the length, I've just tried the 1280x1024 not much difference, average 70.2

Those cards are holding the system back really imo, sorry to say, if it were me 2x260 or 4870's would be the way to go lol but thats a big ole price jump ;) 4870's would be my choice obviously lol

ATI 4870 1gb or 4870x2 2048mb. Is this a no brainer.Or 2 of 4870 1gb in crossfire mode.

Think I would pick 2 260s over 2 4870s. Would run cooler and, from what I hear, the 260 is outperforming the 4870 by a margin.
Sit on it for a while, Erphy. Have a read around and see what you can find on the net with regards to 4870s in crossfire and 260s in sli.
4870x2 is also an awesome awesome card. One of the best on the market. Not 100% sure, but I think it'd perform better than 2 4870s in crossfire.
Jonny will know more than me on it.

Yeah they do but ive got a problem with nvidia right now lol ati all the way as long as they arent that far behind in performance and mine runs at 40c idle at fan 35% they arent hot now, if nvidia pricing was better and stopped bringing out renamed cards confusing the buyers then i wouldnt have such a thing about it. So on a moral stand ATI lol Good gosh i thought i'd lost that old soap box of mine glad to have it back ;)

Been off watching the overclocking on youtube, i7 that jaymer79 pointed out, worth a look. I'll have to save some more money so I've got time to do some reading up on the GPUs.

I enjoyed that, I was surprised they did NOT menton you can overclock useing the AI utility.
The i7 940 runs @ 2.93ghz as I'm sure you know, you can take this up to the i7 965 which runs @3.2ghz, then what the utility calls crazy 3.6ghz. This is done in windows without entering the bios, two clicks of the mouse & a 15 second reboot the 15secs only applys if your have not got to a lot of apps at startup & not useing the sidebar.
Thanks for the youtube info watch some more soon.

I reckon you'd be able to overclock your i7 to around the 4gb mark, as you have a decent cooler. Then, with your new gfx cards, you'd stomp the Terran benchmark.

Speaking of gfx cards, the time it takes you to save, you might be better off waiting for the new ATI cards. I'm sure they'll stomp Nvidia's 295 into the ground, and, at a lower price.

Jonny is right about Nvidea. They must have about 790329875 cards out that do the same thing, just under different names i.e 8800 and 9800. Then you got the letters after each GT, GTS, GTX, GTX2. Just a way of making more money for people that don't know any better.
