Netgear DG834G Router Firmware issue

I've just bought a DG834G Version 3 router.

The firmware declares itself to be version 4.01.04.
I looked on Netgear's web site to see if a newer one was available for this router.
Much to my surprise their web site clearly says that my version 4.01.04 is "NOT FOR USE IN THE UK".

Anyone from Novatech like to comment ?

When I bought another DG834G V3 a few weeks ago, it had firmware 4.01.06 in it, but this isn't downloadable from Netgear.

I am not sure why this is but you might like to ask netgear

The first version release of the firmware for this router is V4.01.04

To say not to use this in the UK is some what silly as this is the routers initial release firmware, as in this is the first version of the firmware released to the commercial market for this router by netgear. We buy the product in from netgear and they send it to use with this firmware so i cannot see why this is an issue. I will ask them about this but you might like to ask as well and maybe we can find out as i cannot see why this cannot be used UK considering they selling it to UK market

Thanks for the quick reply. Gosh, on a Saturday too. Excuse me being momentarily off-topic but it's very reassuring to get such impressive customer service.

I did phone Netgear, but the person I spoke to kept me waiting for some time and then could only respond that "4.01.04 was the first issue of the firmware". To be frank, I don't think that he really appreciated the question I was making.

Curiously, the (apparently newer) 4.01.06 firmware present on a router I bought from Novatech weeks ago doesn't seem to appear on the Netgear web site.

I imagine that if Novatech source the routers through Netgear UK then they must be OK, but if nothing else Netgear should correct their web site to avoid confusion!

If you can find out more, I'd be delighted to hear.

It would also appear that this is a very new router so no newer firmware beyond initial releases is out yet.

Actually, John, there are newer releases of the firmware -

The DG834G V3 router I bought from Novatech several weeks ago had firmware release 4.01.06 which also includes a newer release of the ADSL firmware!

Unfortunately this isn't posted on the Netgear web site.

Yes i see, although without a change log we have no way of knowing exactly what the difference is and it simply might reflect a hardware variation. Time will tell once netgear post up newer versions.
