Since having to restore my system from an extenal hard drive back-up I did earlier, the key board has become slow, often mising keystrokes unless I am very careful. This can be frustrating when the keyboard can't keep up with my typing speed (and I'm not quick!!)
I've checked the drivers and they seem to be installed correctly.
Can anyone help
I'm using XP on a dell inspiron

have a look in task manager, see if there's something running at 100% usage - sometimes this will make everything laggy if it's a high priority application

Thanks for your replies.
I've checked task manager and nohng seems to be running t 100%, and t's not that the words aren't showing as i type and thn suddly appearing a second later. Unfortunately I cant sem to find a solution. This only started to happen after the restoation, so it fels as if something is corruped, but apart from a complete e-install, I'm lost:-( By the way, this is me typng fairly slowly and you can see th misng letters, I've left thi in deliberatey)

try a linux boot CD, just to make sure it is the OS, although it sounds like it probably is... or in the BIOS, see if there's somewhere you can type something (and not save)

Hi
Thanks for you advice
I tried what you suggsted and loaded "open office" but the keyboard still misses keystrokes:sad:
Does this mean I'm in serious trouble:?:

if you booted off a linux cd, and loaded open office from that, it just means you have a hardware problem/misconfiguration. (Open office is available for windows too, but i'm assuming you used a linux CD)

Hi Grand Fromage

Have you tried your keyboard in another PC? Is your keyboard cordless? It sounds to me like your keyboard is having trouble getting the signals through to your PC. If you have indeed tried the suggestion of booting into Linux and it continues to happen, then I would suggest trying a different keyboard.

Also, is your keyboard plugged in via USB or PS/2? Can you try another port? Your PC should have a second PS/2 port which will be coloured green for a mouse connection. Your keyboard will work through this port, it is just coloured green for ease of connectivity for those that don't know much about computers. Try it in that port with the mouse in the other (purple, if it is a PS/2 mouse) and see if the problem still persists. If after trying all of this you're still having the issue, then it is likely that your keyboard is faulty and you need to replace it.
