thinking about upgrading my main pc to a dual core and have been looking around recently at what people are offering. Was going to go for a 4200 and waited til AMD prices dropped. The site I usually buy off dropped a few days later than some other sits to about £125 then the next day went back up to £233, what was with that, they are still full price as well.
Anyway a mate told me about novatech and was looking on here at the AMD 64 dual cores am2 and saw that the 4200 was only £133 (good price) and then saw the 5000 was only £210, WOW. Another site I actually found this on is about £490. However novatech are out of stock at the mo :(
I am waiting for an email to say when they expect some more but was just wondering if anyone had heard anything already about when they will be available.
Plus I must say that is a **** good price and will certainly be buying one if they are receiving stock in the next week or so

why not go conroe, they seem to be better at the moment, by far

Well I been debating about whether to get an AMD or the Conroe. I have always preferred the AMD in desktop pcs but have heard that the conroe is now a big improvement from what past intels were.
Would like to hear more opinions on whether the Intel core 2 duo is worth it for the amount of money compared with the amd x2 am2 for the amount of money you pay for them.
I am not a person who is always trying to stay up to date as much as possible so this processor may have to last at least 3-5 years for me and i want the best choice that will last me. I dont want to spend too much £250 is about the limit.
Thanks for any opinions you guys post

i would get the cheaper cpu then, because the am2 x2 5000 is still a very good processor and will last a long time

If you are buying a brand new system, with all new parts, get conroe.
If you are an AMD personupgrading, its simply not worth it, it will be the most expensive upgrade ever :p

Well have placed my order for amd x2 5000 am2 last monday (31st july) told it would be 3 days for novatech to get them in stock and my order is still saying awaiting stock.
I got all my other parts from other suppliers last week so now just waiting for my processor before I can upgrade my PC.
Must say though i ordered a pci ide card off novatech on friday about 2pm and it was being despatched at about 3pm the same day and received it monday (today) at just gone noon. Well done novatech very fast.
Which my processor would arrive as fast!!!

768mb sd ram,
200gb and 40gb hd (ide),
dvd and dvd rewriter,
32mb nvidia graphics,
new system will be:-
amd x2 am2 5000

Total upgrade cost about £400+ but i got case fan, 500w psu and pci ide card cos my new mobo only got 1 ide slot and 4 odd sata i think and i am currently using all ide.

Bit disappointed today
When i ordered my amd 5000 x2 from novatech it was estimated it would take them about 3 days to get them in stock, so they should have had them about the end of last week or latest the beginning of this week.
Now I have found out that they probably wont be getting them in till the 25th of August. about 2 weeks and 3 days away. So i was not very happy considering i have got all my other parts ready and expecting to have my upgraded system working by the end of this week.
So im just going to have to wait becuase the other sites i use for computer parts either dont stock them or haven't got any in stock and/or nearly twice as much as what novatech are offering them for.
Oh well things dont always got to plan ay?

have you tried http://www.froogle.co.uk for this item, seeing that there is none in stock at novatech at the moment

Have just had a look and by the looks most people are out of stock and so far novatech is the cheapest I have found.
Looks like everyone is waiting for amd to ship some more out.

Its true, AMD didn't expect to have such a high demand for the X2's this quarter and thus didn't make/ship as many as it turned out they needed too.
Every retailer/reseller on the planet is waiting for these, myself included, I have customers who need them!

because of the major price drop, they should of made more then dropped the price, or not drop the price as much
