iPhone 3G Unlocking

Anyone tried the Yell0wSn0w application on their jailbroken 3G iPhone? I hear there is a new version out but it didnt do a lot for me. All it did was barf and prevent any GSM access even with my official approved SIM.

i've only jailbroken my 3g, and put pdanet on it - everything else i was happy with.

what's yellowsnow meant to do? (other than be something you shouldn't make snow cones out of...)

I've heard of it but haven't tried it, I haven't updated to the 2.2.1 firmware yet.

Methanoid - what version are you running on your iPhone?

yellowsn0w is only for 2.2 not 2.2.1

I have used it on about 15 phones and not had any problems. but dont forget, it is still in BETA

2.2 and Yellowsnow caused me to lose all GSM ability until I removed it.... It's not quite their for Euro phones yet, more for US... I thought they had a version now for 2.2.1 not that I am very bothered.. I mean I'm on a contract for another 12 monhs so I'll worry then!

there is and isn't a version for 2.2.1, there are a few work arounds that you have to perform first, in the actual update you don't upgrade the Baseband of the phone.

so in reality you are using 2.2.1 software with the 2.2.0 baseband, if that makes sense.

To be honest the 2.2.0 baseband was **** for me, constantly dropping calls or giving me "Call Failed" messages, the 2.2.1 baseband has been a lot more stable for me. but as you say, my contract is up in july and by then the Dev Team would have had an unlock for the latest software then.

Lets see what apple bring out this year!

regarding Euro/US phones, they are all the same, same units, same software everything, the only difference is the localization that you set on the unit and obviously the frequency band that we use in the UK is different to the US but the phone can use them all (Quad Band)

How can your contract be up in July if its a 3G iPhone as all were 18 month contracts... Did you do some special deal?

I was already on a 24 month Contract, done a mid term upgrade to iPhone 3G July last year... (I work in a mobile phone shop)

I find there is no point unlocking mine as O2 gives you unlimted data usage anyway. I've jailbroken my iPhone though as load of apps from Cydia are pretty useful.
