Hi.

I have a novatech "nero" (i think that was the name) range pc from a couple of years ago.

It looks like this one:

My processor fan needed replacing, so I have a bought a new one. When I went to install it, the instructions show that I need to insert the screws from the reverse of the motherboard. I cannot work out how to access the back of the motherboard.

It appears to be attached to the plate via some strange form of screw.

I cannot seem to remove the other side of the case either to access from that side as it is attached by some rather permanent looking rivets. I have removed the front panel, and the rivets seem to attach to both the front and back of the side and top panel. These are definately attached to something, as I have tried to gently put a thin stanley blade underneath the panel and it is impossible near the rivet.

This suggests to me that logically, these panels cannot slide off.

Is there something simple I am doing wrong?

thanks

The only way to access the backside of the mainboard is to completely removing it from the case. Even if the other side panel could be removed you could still not access the back of the mainboard as the metal plate that the board is secured to would be in the way.

If your CPU cooler uses a non standard retention module you will be required to completely remove the mainboard. Remove the old HSF and Retention module and then fit the new one in accordance with the instructions. Once this is done the mainboard can be refitted to the case.

Any ideas on how I get it off? There do not seem to be any standard screws attached.

Please can you provide serial number from your PC.

It should be located on a sticker on the back of the case and be in the following format xxxxxxx-***

We will then be able to check exactly what case your system was built with and provide correct removal instructions.
