View Full Version : USB Key Drivers
My USB Key has recently decided to stop working. I have been through all of the troubleshooting and am guessing that it is a driver problem. However i cant find any drivers on the internet. Could i have a link for an XP driver please.
Thanks.

I assume we are talking about a USB Flash Drive.
There are no drivers to download. Since Windows ME USB flash drives have been supported natively with no driver required.
In short windows has the driver built in so you should just plug in and windows should be able to access the flash drive.
Do you have another system you can test the USB flash drive on.
What kind of problem are you having??
Yes, sorry, A USB Flash Drive.
I plug it in and it is not immediately recognised. I keep re-plugging it until it is recognised in device manager as "unknown device." I right click, go to properties and the device status box tells me that "there are no drivers installed for this device."
When i try another flash drive it is recognised immediately and in the device status box it tells me that "the device is working properly."
I have the same problem when i try the flash drive on another system.
Thanks in advance.

If the drive is failing on two different systems that would suggest that there is possibly something wrong with the flash drive. Also this would hint at that if other flash drives are working fine in the PC.
The reason it says that there are no drivers are installed because it cannot identify the device. If it could it would install the generic XP driver used to access all flash drives.
The fact that it takes several replugs of the device in order to get it to only come up as an unknown device also points to a problem with the flash drive.
Time to back up your data on it and see how how the warranty is/was !
