Those temps for me are brillo !
My Presler 930 CPU like idled like 44C ! So 47C under full load is nothing really :P
My overclocked 930 peaked at 79C but it was stable :)
Off topic i have modded my Video Card slightly this evening

i got mammoth cooling. i got freezer 64 pro. takes up half my case. after 3 hours gaming cpu only just hits 32 degrees and idle is on about 25. I use and overclocked amd 3500+ oc'd to 4000 (roughly).
remember this is intel chip, not AMD - they always used to get a bit toasty too :D

its coz the the p4's had pore clock for clock performance so the pumped more power and ramped up the mhz which created more heat and they were still poor compared to amd. the new ones are a lot less toasty i believe.

the old p4's had less pwerfromance per clock compared to AMD
p4 3ghz was about a 2ghz AMD
im not very good at maths, but, i think AMD have better performance per clock

Yeah, the balance is not tipped in intels favour, one or two extra instructions per cycle on the conroe.

on XS I assume :D I'm pretty sure thats also an ES he has so its ability to overclock will not be the same as standard...

You'll have to wait until the end of the year.

yh. apparently the quad cores are coming out in january. AMD's not due for another year so there a bit behind.

It All depends on performance, if AMD's new dual core opterons can beat intels quad core, then imagine what quad opterons can do.plus, what happened to AMD's 4X4 mobo, there was a buzz about it, now it has just gone dead

hopefully they will launch that near xmas
The Kentsfield has actually been brought forward to a Decemeber release, now whether its put back again, or later, will remain to be seen. Well, so rumour has it obviously :D

will programs written fo dual core utilise all the 4 cores?

If the programs are multi threaded then they should use all the cores

I just saw a review of a single conroe (extreme edition) beat a dual dual core opteron set-up, and not the old opterons, the new ones ,the best that AMD have to offer

Can you link me to the review? Have a mate who's an AMD fanboy and keeps saying Opterons would beat my X6800 :P
Thanks
