Just wondering, what do you consider to be the MAXIMUM load you would allow your processor to get to?
Currently running F@H whilst downloadin from Steam.
Highest I've seen CPU hit is 40-ish, but according to SpeedFan, the individual cores sometimes peak to 50-55. Is this a reasonable temperature for load when running at 3.6Ghz?

I wouldnt want my Prime temps to be much over 70-75. What cooler have u got?

By prime you mean the benchmark-software-prime thing? (Sorry, I'm new to benching, don;t know what software to look at xD)
*goes to test on prime*

Those temperatures should be fine, what cpu cooler are you using?

Generally mine play about in the 60's while running prime95 but the cores are never that loaded normally so its mid 50's when im running stuff tops.

Its generally a good idea to run prime95 loading your cores at full for a few hours to see how the temperature varies and if the system crashes under the load.

Using a Noctua CN12P (very quiet lol ^_^) in a nova/hiper osiris case.
I'll try prime later and let you know if it melts.

Tbh i don't know what kinf of load folding@home puts on your CPU, if its 100% load on both cores then those are excellant temps for that overclock. I'd suggest running prime95 along with realtemp and seeing what you get.

Its very hard to actually melt a processer unless you doing something rly silly, there have pretty good protection built in, at least in my experience :p

With that cooler i dont think you will have a problem with temps, but its always worth testing anyway, plus if you room needs warming then it will do a good job it (Y)

You should be fine for 4+Ghz with that cooler.

Well just ran Prime for 10 mins straight with realtemp and peaked at 56.

I could push it higher but i'd have to mess with votages and ram and stuff (which I'll do later, but not at 1 in the morning lol)

Yea im in the same boat. Gurusan has the same board as you and is a master of E8*** clocking so hopefully he will drop by and help u out.

Very similar to me, mine is very slightly hotter but nothing notable, my cooler is a freezer 7 pro so slightly cheaper :p. I could and have clocked it higher, i had no problems with 4.0Ghz at all, but i just feel more comfortable running at a relatively modest 3.6Ghz 24/7. :>

I did try a freezer 7 pro in a previous build, but I just love the noctua for how quiet it is!

i have an E8400 and run it at 4Ghz on an Asus P5q basic model and it is perfectly stable and i also have a freezer pro 7 which keeps the core temps below 50c after playing cod4 for a couple of hours at a time. for what i do this over clock is safe and usable, be careful thought coz i think the e8400 starts to use a lot of juice once it reaches the 4Ghz mark as sometimes combined with a 9600gt i have some textures flicker black (usually walls or arches on crossfire and broadcast maps on cod 4) i have a 530w hiper psu which i think i will need to upgrade in the future. with this slight problem which might just be drivers anyway i still get a healthy 90fps playing cod4 with med/high settings and at 1440x900 res, so can't complain.

I would try to keep it below 60, although they are fine up to 70 for 100% load I would say
