5 Steps To Improving Your PC's Performance.
If you PC seems to be running slower than when you first received it or if it locks up / crashes from time to time the below information should help get things back to normal.
1, Check what programs run at start up.
http://oes.iccc.cc.ia.us/techsupport/FA ... rmance.htm (http://oes.iccc.cc.ia.us/techsupport/FAQs/PCperformance.htm)
If allot of programs start running when you boot to windows this can slow the PC down. Remove any programs that you do not use.
2, Scan for Spyware and Ad Ware.

Unfortunately because there is more and more spyware on the internet i would recommend running more than one spyware removal program. There are two spyware removal programs that i use at home, they are Adaware and SpyBot. Both are freeware and can be downloaded from the below links.
Ad-Aware Personal
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
SpyBot
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
Before running any spyware scans check to see if there are any updates available. I would recommend running a spyware scan once a week. One week use Adaware and then the next week try Spybot. Sometime what one misses the other will find.
More information on what spyware is can be found by clicking the below link.

Spyware can also leave things in the windows registry, try running this to clean the registry.

3, Run a full virus scan.
If you dont have any virus removal software installed you can download Free-Av from the below link. This software is freeware and updates are released every day or two.

Before running a virus scan check for any updates.
To keep your PC nice and secure when surfing the net you should also run a firewall. A free, very good firewall called Zonealarm can be downloaded from http://www.zonelabs.com.
4, Check for hardware problems.
If a bit of hardware in your PC is faulty it can affect the performance of the PC. Memory and hard drive diagnostics tools can be downloaded by clicking the below links.

Another cause of PC's locking up is overheating, the easisest way to check for a heat related problem is removing the side of your PC and running it with a small desk fan blowing into it. If this solves the problem installing another case fan and / or installing a better CPU heatsink should fix the problem.
If a hardware problem is detected and your PC is in warranty please contact Novatech technical support so they can arrange a return.
5, Start again.
If you try all of the above and the system is still running slow the best thing to do would be to backup all important data and install a fresh copy of windows.
