ive got most of my materials ready for my "mod".
But the question is, should i go for a cape cora fanless radiator that cools better than a dual 120 black ice pro, or stay with my triple.

Ive got most of the materials already.
Im gonna go down to the tip soon to see if i can get some metal from a cooker or something useless that has been thrown away.

Pictures to come soon

I found out yesterday my case is too thin to do what I wanted with it :( 17cm... ridiculous :(

cape cora cooling better than a bips? I have to admit i'm strggling to see how a passive rad works better than one with fans, if thats the case, i'm changing my plan! got any links?

just search for a review of it, it seems to work very well, and because fan radiators havent changed too much, the results should still be valid.

But im having to put off my plans for a bit, because as of this morning, my pc monitor is kaput.
i will get you a pic of it later.so im gonna have to take it back to the shop and get it replaced or repaired

Ahhhh..... i see now how it could be comparable to a bips :) its huge lol interesting looking rad, would certainly want it wall mounted, and outside though :)

Today ive made a make up of the case and components in cardboard form.
The case is going to be like a server case IE. rack mount.
so it will be on its side, and be quite wide. but should get some excelent ventilation through it.
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5613/projectincardpv5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

And BTW im going to mount some fans in the top of the case above the NB and SB to cool even more and not just rely on fans from the RADs

Mine is going to take a while...

Only decided last night where to mount the pump lol

Are you making a case from scratch???

Nox

Finally you have found a place for the pump.
And yes, i will be trying to make the case from scratch.
but i just realised that my alliminium is only 0.5mm thick, so i will use that for the little bits.EG.hard drive cages etc, and use the 1mm steel for the rest.

Now i have to make a rack to mount it in.lol
Im going to start making the case tomorrow, because the rest of my stuff arrives then.So i might go out and buy some more steel ETC today or tomorrow after the parts come.
Its not going to be ultra good build quality, but it will do for me :D

Nox
11-09-2006, 12:19 PM
yep, though I didn't mount it - and i'm not thinking it is too close to the mobo area - but only in the way it may cause interference, so I may change my mind... again :D

You really want to be using 1.5mm aluminium for the case if you want sturdy, 1mm minimum. My case has 4mm in some places!!! but is mostly 2-3 for the frame, with the panels being 1-2

Nox

Taxation
11-09-2006, 12:24 PM
i know i do, but seeing that the case is going to be quite small, and it is 1mm steel for the large panels. There are also going to be various supports and places that the large panels attatch to, so the fact that it is only thin material wont make too much difference.

Nox
11-09-2006, 12:58 PM
Is far too much like hard work building a case from scratch for me! :)

Good luck with it - I hope you're using a pre-made motherboard chassis!

Really depends on how quickly i can cut and how many blades i dont want to ruin.
So about a week, my next update will be tomorrow, and after that i will be offline for a bit until i have some of it built and my pc back together.

Put the pump in now too, not sure it will stay where it is, but its there... & also got the front back on, but hmmm, no clue what to do at the top yet though, hmmm. Lost the top 5.25 bay, and some of the middle. Not too sure what I can jam in there :D think I have about 7mm depth I worked it out as.

Fan controller?
little windows to look through?
stickers :P

It is kind of damp outside today, and i have nowhere to work inside, unless i move the car out of the garage, so not much will be happening today.

Fan controller?

got one - not sure what to do with it though, ie read that as 'where/how' to mount it.

little windows to look through?

nope - thats a 'special' mod I have planned, one i've never seen done. but you'll have to wait - rest of the case is higher priority

stickers :P

erm... no.

Window kits arrives, a rectangle one and a L shaped one
the windows are bigger than what i expected
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/313/dsc00071fp7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

value corsair RAM, for some reason 512mb of my total RAM isnt picked up by free ram xp pro, but it shows that i have 2gb still free, even with windows running :? so im guessing that its just a program error and that the missing amount of ram is taking care of windows for me.

2X30cm cold cathodes in red, for some special lighting, coming soon
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/4996/dsc00072bx9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I also got some TIM cleaner (cpu cleaner) but i didnt take a pic of that.

To get the RAM working i had to get another module out from my old pc

Hows the box coming?

Someone at work just told me there is a laser cutting machine on site... Just need to find where now, and who operates it :) Only downside is it would of been really useful a few weeks ago now, when I was cutting and drilling for England. Typical.

Well lets put it this way
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/7516/dsc00086vh5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

and that was one of the smaller cuts, plus i broke several rivets, and a riviter, and left a screw on the floor which burst my dads car tyre

so i decided to just make a rad box for the moment ,until i have sufficient resources. And i have stopped making a case, and im just gonna buy a big ar*e case and mod it slightly, the cm stacker stc-01 (i think)(the original)
Here is my rad box
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/7443/dsc00084il0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

cant move it because the tubes go right through the sides of the cases
And i had major leaks due to the ends of the tubes being gunked up and not connecting properly.

Nox

I did once consider trying to make a box out of two rads, the aquacomputer ones that take 15 120mm fans each.

Changed my mind when I saw the price!

Nox

Nox
26-09-2006, 06:13 PM
oh, and get used to the cuts, but try not to puncture your dads tyres.

Ive also got a couple of wounds on my legs where it was a hot day , so i wore shorts, and walked past my half made box and it cut really deep.

The box was half done, the i/o fit perfectly, just like in a store bought case.
But i couldnt get the panels to stay together, screws wdidnt want to work, drill kept dying on my, i am however going to put a window onto the stacker im going to get.

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/2249/63750sk1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

yes it will be filled with wee, before anyone asks
Going to put window on side to see into the middle of the case.
Putting rad on the bottom, and putting pump on the bottom (by the front).
I might even section the bottom bit off with some steel or allu, and keep it clear for watercooling stuff

Nox

no reservoir is annoying...

trust me :)

i've spent hours with a bucket, both ends of the pipe under-fluid, then joined them, only to see bubbles, large bubbles 5 mins later.

Well if you came to the same conclution as I did then it cant be wrong. I ordered the same stacker as you (but they sent me the 810  ) So I was looking into making the 810 into what i wanted, I got soo deep into it that when I came into thinking about the one you have (I was ment to get) I saw many more things come my way. The only thing that I need to find out is if the rad that goes in the bottom can get up to 3 120mm cans or 2.

oh btw, havent been on in a while. my striker blew up so ive stripped my case and im spraying it black atm. i should have some pics by tommorow. Getting my new water loop soon. Eventually i will have 2. yep, 2 laing D5's, 2 triple rads, 2 res's. 1 loop for CPU and mobo the other for gfx card (eventually SLI).
Gonna run different colour coolant in each for effect.
I saw that evo rad u looked at nox, didnt know you'd found it too. if you load it up with fans it'll draw 120w and you need an amazing pump to get coolant through it.

oh and tax, i just looked at ure paintbrush of ure WC. have the rad after the blocks, i have my WC like yours, apparently its better to have cpu directly after the pump, the higher pressure gives better cooling.
thats what i was told...

GN
04-04-2007, 08:05 PM
This seems logical to me. More coolent passing though.

Taxation
04-04-2007, 08:39 PM
pump produces heat, radiator cools the water.
plus i dont get your logic, there would be the same amount of flow everywhere in the system because it is in a sealed loop.

you see my logic

teknokid
04-04-2007, 09:36 PM
exactly what i thought, but according to the pro's i doesnt work like that :(

Taxation
04-04-2007, 09:47 PM
i think they are lying
i did it pump>cpu
and pump>rad>cpu
second worked best

teknokid
04-04-2007, 09:55 PM
yeah, im with you on this one, its how my loops set out atm :)

Nox
05-04-2007, 10:06 AM
yeah, coolest part of the loop will be directly after the radiator, thats where you want your cpu.

Nox

teknokid
05-04-2007, 10:15 AM
hm, i wonder if what they mean is the longer the loop the slower it flows because it needs more power to get round... nox, just read through this thread, how can you fill a WC sys without a res or fillport? and what about top-ups?

Taxation
06-04-2007, 11:29 PM
my pump has a bit where u can fill it
it depends on how you want to set-up the loop to be honest
you could use a T-junction on it to fill it up

teknokid
07-04-2007, 08:10 AM
that seems the most logical way of doing it.
