I am going to get a 250gb hardrive but i dont know which one to choose.

I am probally going to get the Maxtor 250gb Serial ATA but is it better than the Samsung and why is the samsung so small?

I dont want a Seagate.

All help appreciated.

What samsung are you on about, it might be a laptop hard drive, or a extrenal hard drive that goes into an external drive enclosure.

there is nothing bad to really say about the maxtor 250Gb hard drives, they work in the same way that all other 250GB hard drives do, there is no real world difference in performance eg.in games etc.

what about it.
it is a standard sized hard drive
the reason it looks small is because it doesnt have the casing around it

If you get a Maxtor and have a Nforce 3/4 motherboard then make sure you check this link out...

there aint much different, but i'd have to say go with the samsung spin point too.

T7k250 is faster, but the samsung runs much cooler and much quiter and isn't very far behind either.

Probably lucky TBH - if you've got a Maxtor SATA does it occasionally not get recognised by the BIOS at boot up? If so, suggest you contact Maxtor for a firmware upgrade.

TBH I could live with the drive not being recognised once every 5-6 boots or so. However, little did I know that there was the potential for data loss. First I knew there was a problem was when the firmware issue resulted in scribbling of rubbish across my disk.

Thank god for File Scavanger which, even though the OS couldn't open up the disk, it managed to recover the majority of the data to another disk!

I also have a problem with my Maxtor 250GB SATA HDD. About 1 in 5 to 10 times, it just sits there clicking at me. If I perform a restart it always starts up and is thereafter ok.
Any ideas??

Go to the Seagate (They have bought Maxtor) website and download Powermax drive diagnostic tools. If there's a problem with your drive it should be able to detect it.

If you have a clicking drive.. BACKUP YOUR DATA ASAP!

I had two Maxtor hdd's, 80gb & 120gb... both of which started to make a strange clicking noise. At first I ignored it, but after a few weeks my system kept crashing and having blue screens!

I backed up my data and got a Seagate! ... Funny thing is, 2 weeks later, the Seagate was clicking aswell!! So that was RMA'ed for a replacement!

Luckily im dandy now :) .. Everything is running smooth and 'click' free!

But would advise you backup your data on the clicking drive and replace it before it fails.

Cheers,
