Hi all

As you've probably gathered i'm new here!!

I bought a Vortex 630 Elite Intel P4 3.0ghz 512mb DDR 250gb SATA HDD Geforce 6600 128Mb Graphics pc from novatech back in May. upgraded the power supply and cpu to silent ones and fitted a GE force 6500 graphics card - all upgrades at Novatech recommendation for a quiet business machine...dont run games etc so dont need the power but was after a peaceful life.

The pc has been fine until this evening came back to it and found the monitor black screened. Screen reading ' No Signals'. Did a search on this forum with my laptop and found it might be HDD problem. Checked all power cables and everything (to my untrained eye!) seems ok. Re-powered up and notice the hdd is not making its usual zzz noises when booting up or working hard. With the case open i notice that to touch the hdd case it is whirring slightly but there are no red lights flashing on the front box.

Please can someone help. This is my main business machine and no i havent backed up for a while so i have lots of important data on the hdd. :oops:

Thanks for your help

Sorry forgot to put serial No etc on

Serial # - 7086249-002 date - 15/05/06
Order No - 3816208

Update - Pc going into aftersales for testing and checking. Tech support feel that its unlikely to be hdd failure but some other major component :? . Will let forum know outcome

No Signal?

I had the same problem with a ATI 256mb graphics card.It said No Signal,black screen.

Turned out the graphics card was faulty.

I think your graphics card might be broken.

Thnks for the reply nick

i did try changing the graphics card back to the original Nvidia G force 6600 pci 128mb card from the one that the novatech techies advised me to change to when i bought the machine. The reason for the change of graphics card was that i wanted a quiet machine so was advised to change the graphics card too from the above one to a GE Force 6500 ultrasilent pci e supporting 256mb.

Basically in addition to the change of the above card they advised me to fit the following;
Nexus pht 7750 silent 775 cooler
Thermaltake 80mm blue led fan
Hyper 525 psu power unit

All has worked fine for 3 1/2 months with no probs at all then suddenly bang nothing there.

I have taken the box back to the aftersales guys and they are looking at it. i'm hoping it will be sorted really soon as i have a number of client invoices and jobs on the hdd that i need to get off b4 the weekend! :roll:

Depending on the noise the HDD was making, they should be able to determine whats wrong with it pretty rapidly - if it sounds like its booting up, its most likely the gfx card, infact a no signal message would tend to indicate this too.

Unfortunately, as with everything computer related, it *could* be anything, just don't try and blame it on the mug of coffee on my desk. :)

Well guys i now have my pc back from the tech guys.

It turned out to be the motherboard that had gone 'bang' so fortunately all my work is safe and i've now backed up everything...albeit manually mmm very slow.

Thanks very much to the excellent aftersales service i have received from Novatech. They appreciated my problems of this as my main business machine and pulled out all the stops to get me up and running again as quickly as possible.

The only problems ive had thoug h since getting running again is that i had removed my hdd before sending it back as they didnt feel it was this at fault and felt that i should keep it for risk of them damaging data on it plus the fact that i had client confidential info on it that put me at risk of data protection.

Once i fired up the pc i couldnt get into it until i had re-registered my copy of windows...pain in the derriere...then it tried to tell me that my copy of windows was not genuine...hahaha So i had to register again and all seems ok now but when i boot up the following occurs;

1. in dos the following message 'Floppy disk(s) fail (40) - press F1 to resume' then it goes to the next message
2. 'secondary master (sata device not found) but then boots straight to windows

Any ideas would be greatly received

chances are it could be your copy of windows my advice would be to back up and completely re-install windows (dont repair it completely re-install) this is because XP is hardware locked and doesnt like you changing any devices like the motherboard of hard drive

1. in dos the following message 'Floppy disk(s) fail (40) - press F1 to resume' then it goes to the next message

A) Floppy drive connected wrong? Does the FDD light stay on all time? If so then the FDD cable is wrong way around.

2. 'secondary master (sata device not found) but then boots straight to windows

A) WTF?? Sata has no secondary master!!! Its all master. Check BIOS and also any SATA/RAID apps that load after.
