hi all,

The rear of the motherboard (i/o area) there's a slot for a SATA cable to be fitted, so you can quickly fit another hdd for quickly backing up data - 'on the go'. For some reason i have been looking behind my case and trying to fit a SATA cable into the slot on the mobo.... and to me, it doesn't fit :?

Is there a special SATA cable needed to use the 'ON THE GO' SATA slot at the rear of the mobo?

Cheers,

The external connection requires an eSATA cable which is slightly different to a normal SATA Cable.

You can find them in either eSATA connection to eSATA connection which is the normal one used. This links eSATA HDD Devices to your PC via the eSATA port on the IO back plate.

This is basically a SATA drive in an external HDD Enclosure with the eSATA connection on and mains powered to run the drive.

You can get eSATA to normal SATA cable which would let you link just a bare drive to the eSATA port but you would still need to power the bare drive.

Heres a picture of the ends on a eSATA cable.
