tell me you are joking... :)
while performance may be great, the drivers are awful , especially for notebooks

I have given ATI a second and a third chance, going to stick with nvidia now.

I mean come on why on earth would a device driver need .net? :)

Well if the drivers every come good then they will wipe the floor with nvidia, im sticking with ati for now the cards have a lot more in them that arent being used imo, the drivers arent great but they arent as bad as your making out Bofh, and each update gets better, nvidia drivers arent perfect either by a long shot, those lower end cards that have been mentioned are the better cards even with poorer drivers, speaks volumes really doesnt it ;)

Hi there

Novatech has recognised that ATI has a great mainstream lineup, especially 4600 series and as such in approx 2-3 months time we shall be offering ATI based laptops alongside the NVIDIA counterparts to give a better range of option.

I was of course just speaking from my own experience, and over a long period
I get many more ATI issues with customers than I do Nvidia issues. which get broader when specialist equipment is involved like the Dolphin Magnifying software for the partially sighted.

I loved ATI once, it was a great 4mb Xpert@play I had, and as I built systems, they were very cost effective in comparison to 3dfx and nvidia. Big spoil was when they introduced Opengl into the device driver, they were unstable for such a long time, Rage Fury cards etc. couldnt run games without them being extensively patched.

more recently I gave ATI another shot with my old laptop (mainly because of the delay with the nvidia part) I got an Acer with an x1200 built in, on paper the chip looked pretty impressive for a laptop chip (3 years ago) but in practise getting everything working was difficult , and I had to resort to 3rd Party Omega drivers to get stable gaming going.

The only thing that causes me a problem these days is the constant need to update Realtek's HD Audio drivers, they must be having a good old wrestle with windows patches.

Anyway thats my 2pence worth :)
it is still great to have the choice.

Clevo used to offer most of their laptops with ATI options aswell as nVIdia but then they seemed not to use them for a while but I think they are coming back in with the mainstream ones with AMD cpus :)
