video card for Photo work

Hello,
I am not into 3D / gaming, but do a lot of photographic editing.
Would a motherboard with embedded graphics be suitable?
( i have a new Asus P5W DH Mobo with PCI-E slots and PCI, the board might be faulty and need replacing, just wondered if anyone has experience / opinions about on board graphics)
Should a new video card be needed can anyone recommend a decent passively cooled one?

I wouldnt rely on just an onboard graphics card.
get a PCI-E nvidia 6200,they run cool (even when passive)
or a ATI X1300,passive
