Has anyone else had problems with this machine???

I bought a Nforcer 4200 the other day from novatech Installed XP Pro, updated all the drivers, installed the printer, some software (Dreamweaver, Quickbooks, Adobe) and thought great all done :)

Rebooted for good measure (XP Pro after all, you can fix most probs by rebooting, right)

BSOD (blue screen of Death) appears, so I google the error code (like you do) and start seeing posts to forums about poss power problems.

I pop the case and what do I find???? A 300 watt power supply

In a pc with this high a spec!!!! Are you having a laugh Novatech!

300 watt just about runs my smoothwall in a P3 what the fnek is it doing in a high spec machine like the nforcer.

Under normal conditions I would just laugh it off and buy a better power supply BUT, I am still waiting on 3 laptops from Novatech a month after ordering and nobody can tell me when I will get them

And to make it worse I get told that today after weeks of "the chassis will be here tomorrow sir "

Novatech used to have an excellent rep but if this is what is happening to their customers i would say that rep was slipping.

Get it together guys and girls, I have had less problems with Acer and they are really bad

Right rant over for now, pity the poor people in customer services tomorrow though

What was the BSOD stop code.

I will post it later as I left them on my desk at home.

BIOS and speedfan (installed last night) are reporting low + voltages

I have been here before with another box with AMD processer,
weeks of trying driver updates and it turned at to be a weak PSU.

Bunged in a 650 watt Q-Tec that I had lying around and no more BSOD for the last 3 years.

Sorry for public rant, just feeling let down at the minute by a company that I have always respected. :(

the other question would be why do you push the barebones bundle that uses similer chipset, cpu, less ram and no graphics with a decent PSU yet buying a prebuilt means an unbranded 300 watt PSU???

Anyway, before I rant away some more the last 2 stop codes were

0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X8050BE42, 0XBAA97BD0, 0X00000000)

and

0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0XACC70E9C, 0XA9BB9A4C, 0X00000000)

hope you can shed some more light on the problem

There is a good article on stop codes >> HERE << (http://www.thevistaforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=109&highlight=stop+code)

Thanks, that was a useful article, unfortunately it doesn't cover the stop code I have been getting.

After googling the code (and varients of) a couple of other forums reported similer codes and a PSU swap stopping BSOD.

My other options are to knock over the machine and rebuild, wait 24-48 hours after each install to see if BSOD occurs. Not really a viable option for my primary admin machine. My data is backed up but I would have to find another machine to do my books on. Normally that would be fine but my laptops haven't arrived so I cant

PS It is International talk like a pirate day on Sep 19, pass the word.

I am a lot more impressed today than I was yesterday :D

I phoned the Customer Services people and was treated to some Status Quo whilst on hold (cool tunes) and got speaking to a very helpful lady called Stacy.

Not only are my laptop chassis due Monday :D

I told her about the 300 watt PSU, she told her boss, he didn't believe it so he checked, couldn't believe what he saw and is posting me a 450 Watt PSU straight away.

My faith in Novatech is somewhat restored. :D

I've been thinking about buying an nForcer 4200, I hope Novatech now make sure the larger power supply is fitted as standard.

My main concern with this machine is noise, are they noisy? At the moment I'm running a 5 year old machine with no silent power supply etc., is the nForcer 4200 likely to be quieter or about the same?

hi bazzer

i bought a Vortex 630 Elite Intel P4 3.0ghz 512mb DDR 250gb SATA HDD

When i fisrt enquired i had the same issue as you regarding silence. The tech guys were very helpful having been led up the path a bit by sales but eventually i was told that all of the machines as standard are fitted with bog standard noisy fans, psu etc etc. So i was advised to upgrade the machine with the following. Do note that the graphics card is fanless but i dont run games so didnt need top end spec just a nice quiet machine...which it is.

HYP-525PSU x1 HIPER 525 WATT 23db Silent PSU ATX - TRIPLE FAN 24Pin - i know that this is more power than needed but they upgraded me for free cos they hadnt got the lower silent unit in stock

NEX-PHT775 x1 Nexus PHT-7750 Skive Tek Silent 775 CPU Cooler

TT-8CMB x1 ThermalTake Thunderblade 80mm Blue Fan

XFX-6525TC x1 XFX GeForce 6500 Turbo Cache PCI-E Graphics Card 64MB Supporting 256MB

So i believe that if you want quiet then you'll need to upgrade...but dont follow sales advice, speak to a techy.

Good luck Noj
