I'm very considering buying the "Orion Duo T7200" laptop, but have one major reservation...

I will want to install Windows Vista onto the laptop (I currently have a beta 2 version), but am a bit cautious as to whether or not it will run Windows Vista, or more specifically the Aero graphics system.

The GPU spec is:
ATI M54 128MB PCI Express High Performance Graphics with DVI

I cannot find any reference to this on ATI's website and the sales team at Novatech don't appear to be sure.

Questions:

1) I'm sure this laptop will support Vista, but will it support Aero?

2) Can this GPU be removed and replaced with a higher spec if it is found not to be compatible or is that an extremely expensive option?

Thanks fior any advice given.

Regards,

Aubrey

To keep it in the same thread, I'd like to ask the same question, but for Titan T2

I think I've answered the first of my own questions...

This Thread Orion Duo graphics, (ATI M54) is X1400? (http://forum.novatech.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=962) has one of the forum admins from Novatech confirming that the ATI M54 is the same as the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. According to ATI's Windows Vista's Supported Products (http://www.ati.com/technology/windowsvista/Products.html), by selecting Mobile from the list gives the ATI Mobility™ Radeon® X1400 Series (http://www.ati.com/products/MobilityRadeonx1400/index.html).

Thus I think I have put 2 and 2 together and actually got 4!

I have had a quick look on the net and from what i can tell ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 and ATI M54 are just different names for the same thing.

Hi Danno,

Thanks for your reply.

Can you tell me if the Core 2 Duo processor on the Orion is the same as the Merom? This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2#Merom) site says yes. Also, is it 32 & 64 bit capable? - It says Merom will be the first Intel mobile processor to feature EM64T 64-bit extensions.

Thanks again :)

Merom is a 32bit / 64 Bit capable CPU.

The first round of Mobile Core Duo CPU's Codenamed Yonah were only 32bit CPU.

The T7200 and T5600 CPU that we are now using in the Orion Duo are Indeed Merom Core CPU's
