Hi there
I've joined up and am running Folding!
I am on the GPU client with 8600 GT VGA card.
Question however would I be better off with a CPU client or is there anyway I can speed it up as its estimating circa 8 hours per work unit.

it takes a while to sort out your speed, the first wu can show as being hours when in fact it will be minutes, just let it run for a while and you will see the points roll in.

u can run an smp client along with ur GPU client for a few extra ppd, it does sap your sytem somewhat tho.
Amy, get FahMon to monitor ppd, and WU completion time etc.
All working smoothly now.. Work PC is 2100 / 2500 on my first task thingy thing.
Got it running in the background on my T7300 laptop, Q6600 work PC and Q8200 home pc...
Bring on the folding! :trophy:

8600 isnt going to bring you much hope buddy not a good folding card at all, run the smp client along side for a little more it all counts.

Open the options up and put in our team number 91717 and ur name and then save, so all the points u get will go to ur account and to us aswell :). Make sure ur username isnt being used by anyone else.

This is what it says when i look in my statistics:
Date of last work unit None
Total score 0
Overall rank (if points are combined) 1216155 of 1216155
Active processors (within 50 days) 0
Active processors (within 7 days) 0

and i think im on the cpu client, should i be on the gpe client instead?
Well, you will get more points. Go to the "high performance clients" and then GPU client. You can also run the cpu client you already have as well.

You will get more points using that 4870 (gpu client), but using the CPU means u gain extra points. You can still use your pc for basic stuff like going online etc but gaming is out of the question when folding.
Download the gpu client, when you have done that, load it up and right click> configure and make sure u put 91717 in team and ur user name in there. When you have done this, right click>display, u can see if it is working via this method as it will show how much ur pc is folding, how long it will take etc.

More people getting in on the addiction.... I'm even limiting my gaming now, to get more ppd on my machine... how sad is that...

Hehe, that`s the thing :D Mind, I did nothing for virtually a fortnight last month due to Mass Effect (cheers Steve ya ****) and next addiction will send me further down the board :\ Still, 1 WU for the team from every member on here ... rough calculation would be a million points ;) 47 members eh? Superb, there was only Johnny, Nox and I not 10 weeks ago! :D

True, anything's better than nothing. Every little helps. These guys with their vmware make me sick... lol. Joking, I wish I had the patience to set vm up. I will when I get my 3rd 9800, then I'll kick everyone's butt. :D:D:D:D Oh, and also sort out this overheating ****, I mean mobo.

cje, just run this (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/release/FAH6.23beta-win32-SMP-mpich.exe). Set ups a doddle :)
What is it? new smp client?
EDIT - I am already running an SMP client. :D
GeordieNo1

It`s just a Windows SMP client if you don`t wanna set a VM up, just use this. I can get about and extra 1500-1700PPD and that`s just with my dual-core, you should get way over that with your quad. Just read this (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinSMPGuideMPICH) before you start.
I always install to C:\Fold (makes it easier to track) and rename the core (as per instruction). Really, just read the instructions but be sure, when you configure the client to add the -smp flag.
Already running it my friend. You people will be the death of me when my latest leccy bill comes through.... :D But it's for a good cause..

Ah, but the SMP client is free ... your CPU is already under load (so cancelling out C1E/Speedstep savings) feeding the GPU already, all your now doing is utilising the processing power of 2 redundant cores ;)
Edit: Interested in getting to know your PPD on the SMP cje if ya don`t mind buddy :)
I've limited the cpu usage on it to 90% because I still use my pc, and want it to be responsive when I'm using it. I thought that this is better? I don't know. Maybe setting it to 100% is better, or would it stop me from using it normally?
With SMP capped to 90% ppd is 2262.86 PPD.

Nah, whack it up! fahcores are set as low priority anyway, windoze will make sure your apps. get priority ;) Just make sure you set the core priority to slightly higher on the GPU client so it at least gets priority over the SMP client as that`s where you make your most points from.
It`ll be cool, I don`t notice any slowdown whatsover using this rig ;)
Edit: PPD is excellent. It`s a good power saving tip for quad core folders, run two SMP clients instead of GPU client sometimes and get 5k PPD for 100 watts ;)
