You just install Firefox alongside it. I use them both, for different things.
IE8 annoys me the way it won't let you drag pictures from the net to the desktop a lot of the time. Also, it doesn't clear cookies automatically on closedown. Horrible really, but occasionally better for downloading software. Oh, and what's that thing where you have to keep giving permission to post a link at this forum?

Why not try some other browsers? Opera might be worth a go. Apple's Safari is available for Windows.
If you really want fast, I suppose you could try Lynx but it's text only.

I've been using Firefox for a long while now, having become disillusioned with IE7 and I thinks its very good. I occasionally have to return to IE7 for the odd interactive web site form that is only designed to work from within IE but apart from that I remain in Firefox. I downloaded IE8 recently to view the improvements and spent a couple of hours having a look around but very quickly returned to Firefox.
I know it's all personal taste but I think Firefox is streets ahead, give it a whirl I'm sure you come to love it.

The first time that I used Internet Explorer 8 when it was in its Beta stage, I hated it, it kept locking up and was really slow, so I went back to version 7, I re installed version 8 a couple of weeks ago or so when it came out on general release and haven't had any problems at all with it, it's faster and does not lock up (well not on my system).
I still love Firefox though and have both installed on my PC...

i find firefox too messy its a bit pretencious and stylised< i use it a lot against my will but im too lazy to change all the systems default browser at work.. i like IE for its simplicity. i've uninstalled IE8 and got 7 working. IMO its not that IE8 was slow from the homepage, it was slow at opening multiple tabs and searching and kept locking up<<which is ****** useless when researching and heavy browsing<< i'll install it again when they update it but for now im not really impressed with IE8<< if anything i prefer google chrome to IE8

I've just added Firefox 3 to Windows 7. I got so fed up with IE8's slowness and locking up on every fifth page i went to.
The only thing that annoys me about Firefox, is I lose the dictionary every time it updates. But I'm so used to google that I wouldn't change it.

The reason why IE8 is slow at opening new tabs is because it starts up another instance of iexplore so it's basically copying Chrome but not doing a good job at it.
If you've got a fast hard drive, it'll be a very short pause before the new tab is ready for use but on my laptop it takes ages.

I'm messing with jaunty jackalope and firefox 3 on it is loading far faster than firefox on xp, both machines in the same room. I don't use ie now ever, slowest browser ever used.

I thought IE7 was pretty decent. IE8 is ok if you've just got one tab open but as soon as you start opening multiple tabs, then performance goes down the drain. I only use IE when I have to, some sites I visit only work with IE unfortunately.

Chrome is noticably faster then FF and IE8, rly rly noticably, unfortunately there are downside, like bad site support etc.

Chrome is fast but a bit too spartan for my tastes. The lack of add-ons is also a deal breaker for me. I just can't browse the web without Adblock any more.

and flashblock and noscript lol for me.

Oh yeah, Flashblock is a must also. Noscript got a bit much for me, I got tired of unblocking things but it does make things a lot more secure.

Use Firefox with a shed load of plugins but agree that NoScript can get a bit irritating - for sites that just need IE you can use IETab to change the rendering engine and it works pretty well. IE7 was ok but IE8 just seems to be a step backwards in terms of actual performance - I can't see the point in having to wait each time I open a tab - surely this flagged up in testing at MS? Have tried most browsers - Opera, TorPark, Safari under Windows but still seem to come back to FF as it's pretty easy - I actually use a Mac theme and I dont even own a Mac.....

I'm using IE8 but was just convinced to download the latest firefox and first impressions not great.
imo it is slower to load pages and slower to do tasks - or maybe that is just me. i really don't see an advantage of firefox over IE8 tbh...
and one thing i'm finding rly annoying is having to double click to open a new tab on firefox  I suppose if you get use to it is is alright but imo not really worth it.

I've switched to Chrome from firefox recently and I must say I like it more and more by the day. Its been rock steady and support for it seems to be improving.

there has been a few updates for IE 8 recently and i think its stability has improved. as i said before the reason i like IE is for its simplicity and generally'hassle' free when its working lol i dont really see the point in having to swith from other web browsers just cos they have compatibility probs.

Arg, I hated chrome, I am using opera at the moment which is good but limited on somethings, will be switching back to firefox me thinks.

I use Chrome. I keep finding great features everyday. I like a browser that doesn't rely on thousands of apps from all different people to make it good. Opera is another one that I have found very good but it takes some configuration to make it useful. I like Chrome best as it's 'Create Web App' feature is brilliant and so is the fact it has Gears built into it.

Lets see what FF scores at the acid3 test. For people who do not know, acid3 is a test page from the Web Standards Project that checks how well a web browser follows certain web standards. I don' t think you will be impressed with either IE or FF.

Imust try chrome as everyone says its lightning. I can't understand why peopel would say Firefox is too "messy" as it can be customized to suit.

lol it is messy it has random things that pop up and tell you stuff you dont need to know, more hassle when you have to click random X's even more hassle when you have to tick boxs then X's to make sure these boxes dont appear again and then they only appear again anyway after that.
