Well, I'm bored and got nothing to do apart from 2 Practice Maths Exam Papers and my English Coursework Essay on a Poem called 'London' and 'Composed Upon Westminister Bridge'...
Well my target is a stable 4.1Ghz+ =]
My Build...
Intel Core 2 Duo E8200
6GB Corsair Dominators (2x2GB)(2x1GB)(as seen in the SPD Tab of CPU-Z)
Asus P5K Premium P35 Motherboard
Thermaltake V1 CPU Cooler
Antec 900 Ultimate Gamer Case V1
Jeantech Storm 700W Modular PSU
Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7068 x64
That's all i think that will affect the Overclocking =/
So Far, I've got 7.5x550Mhz NOTE: Tell me if i should zip/rar images...

I'm surprised your RAM is stable at those speeds, that a big overclock for RAM, good job.

I do have 570Mhz...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
at 5-5-5-17
I got FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
at 5-5-5-19
I got FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.484375, expected less than 0.4
I'll keep raising the last number?, i reckon ill need to go up to like 5-5-5-45?
5-5-5-20 doesn't boot..

I'm quite surprised you're not doing this on just two RAM sticks. Gotta be easier, hasn't it?

probably would be... =/
System7, you have a much more understanding of overclocking than i do..., at the moment i'm at 6-6-6-20... that should be fine right?
also, I'm assuming that the last number is basically just adding the first 3 up =]
5-5-5-? (5+5+5=15) therefore 5-5-5-15
6-6-6-? (6+6+6=18) therefore 6-6-6-18
Update
well, i ran Prime95 at 6-6-6-20...
It lasted 1 Whole minute =]. till worker 2 got the
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
=[, back to square 7?

Shame. I think you're running out of options on memory except for using 2 sticks.
It's hard to tell if CPU or memory is the problem.
Mr. Orange

Ok, I crashed..
I'm now down to 4.05Ghz... 540Mhzx7.5
I'm determined to get it working at 540Mhz+ because i remember in a review of the P5K Premium that it ran 540Mhz stable which was the best of the motherboards in their tests...

570MHz at 6-6-6-20 really ought to work. It's not much of an overclock on a 1:1 ratio, but you never really know how much margin you've got.
Perhaps you are getting into Reaper DDR2-1200 territory.

Meh, I think you ment 550Mhz at 6-6-6-20 would work.. It did, just not well :P
BUT
540Mhz, Is stable, as far i'm willing to stress for tonight..
Apologies for big image...
atm i'm at
FSB = 540Mhz
Multiplier = 7.5
5-5-5-18
2.15V

Hang on, you're stressing your RAM? Use the short FFT lengths and stress your CPU for now. Get that stable, then work on your RAM ;)
Your CPU is probably going to require quite a bit more volts to get there due to it's low stock frequency, however as you've managed to get Prime running for a minute or so, it suggests it just wants more juice. So, more juice it is ('leccy ;))!

I'm using blend tests in Prime95..
and i'm pretty sure im on the verge of my CPU's VID.. =/
also the vCore is on Auto =/, although ill need 1.3625 because it wont boot at 1.35

April 14th 2009
Ok, it's a new day, My Plan is to try to get 545Mhz, if that works well then i'll get 547.. =] 547 takes me up to 4.102Ghz =]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, I guess I'm not going to get more than 540Mhz... 545 5-5-5-18 the usual FATAL ERROR in Prime95 in 2mins... 545 6-6-6-18 the usual FATAL ERROR in Prime95 in 2mins...
I think i'll clean up all my posts though... =/ TMD will be happy =]

You're doing better than me, old horse. Best I can manage is 3.4ghz. Seems my OCZ 6400 hates being pushed. Previously, my most stable was 3.2ghz but pushing the CPU volts up by .5 did the trick.

nice, you could always grab a pair of Corsair Dominators? only £36 =]
although i would probably be moving onto OCZ Reapers probably next year...
I forgot you had 8GB RAM =/. basically to replace all of that with Corsair dominators it would £112 =/
TheMadDutchDude
14-04-2009, 11:12 AM
VJ, have you attempted pushing more volts through your CPU yet?
As I said, stress your CPU primarily by using small FFTs, the RAM stability can come later. Get one thing stable, then work on another ;)

TBH, I'm happy at 3.4ghz and I'm running a 6gb RAM drive, so need the 8gb. £112 is not something I'd spend on a whim to get a few more mhz. More to the point I need a new joystick, so that's first on my list...

Nope.
as i said before i'm already on the VID

The VID range quoted is not the absolute upper limit of volts allowed, its just the ranged of voltages that may be required to run the processer at stock. You can go above 1.36 just watch temperatures.
Mr. Orange
14-04-2009, 01:09 PM
oh. =/
Well temperatures at the moment seem fine
goes up to 52 under load

Nice clock there
I would stay below 1.4v for daily use, but you can push it a little further
I got me e8200 up to 4.4 max, coz my PC6400 RAM wouldnt go over 1100, :P
Thats a nice OC you have there, I would probs be content with it, I mean, 4Ghz is more e8400 territory, and so you are doing well.
Mr. Orange
16-04-2009, 05:58 PM
lol, thanks, I don't think ill push any further, 4.05Ghz is fine, not a single error, Its actually alot faster and probably more stable
Mr. Orange
17-06-2009, 07:52 PM
I'm allowed to dig my own threads up right?
I dunno. Something's strange.
I get a safe and stable overclock, that works brilliantly for a while. then i get a load of BSODs... :(
like right now, just set my OC setting to default. super stable mind you :D

It was intel burn test or 8 hours prime stable before?

No, but i figured out the problem...
Virus >.<. Although, i'll fix tomoro...
maybe today, but my priorities are elsewhere
I just wont log into anything...
I'd scan..
but My Anti-Virus is dead...

i don't get how your getting your cpu's to run so cool. My athlon x2 7850BE wont run any lower than 55 degrees on idle and goes to 61 degrees under load playing cod4 and thats standard clock :s
That's even with a big desk fan blasting at it and i have reseated the heat sink with new paste
Helior
17-06-2009, 11:01 PM
Stock cooler
athlon

17-06-2009, 11:07 PM
I herd intels run hotter than AMD's?...
Not sure but stock coolers are pretty bad. i7 dont run cool.
Helior
18-06-2009, 01:11 AM
there's so much variation, original athlons and phenom were very hot, athlon 64's not so much but still hotter than 45nm c2d's i think, the older 65nm intels were warmer ofc. AMD stock coolers are better than intel but still very poor compared to even a budget cooler like the arctic freezer 7/64 pro.

Also, may be a dodgy sensor
My cpu apparently never goes below 30 according to software, but the board shows it at less, as does the BIOS
Check the temps in the BIOS.
Mr. Orange
18-06-2009, 03:48 PM
Meh, i dno, Whenever I worry about my Proccessor Temps. I just Put a benchy on, and then feel how hot the CPU cooler is...
Its never actually been hot :D
and i pretty sure Helior's got it bang on right.
PD935, 71C under load.
My older AMD Athlon 2400+ don't really know, but, if you touch the CPU Cooler, you WILL burn yourself.
C2D E8200 45nm, 21C :D

well today my comp turned off with temps hitting 65 degrees on everest and asus's own monitor. The board temp was close to 50 but couldnt see the gfx card but im pretty certain it was over 70. :(

ouchie.
If you are thinking of gettin a Intel C2D, System7, a man that knows more than me, says that the E5200 is a great value Intel C2D which is 45nm.
as for the board. apparently if you're lookin to overclock, the Biostar P45 motherboards seem to have title.

Im not looking for a new cpu i just bought this lot. The joke is my case is open and its all standard clocks yet its still cookin itself. If i put the side of my case on it starts to heat up in seconds and boils :(
Can anyone recommend me a cheap nice cooled case. Around the 50-80 mark
Mr. Orange
18-06-2009, 08:16 PM
Antec 900 Ultimate Gamer Case (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?ANT-NINE) you can't go wrong.
I'm using it :D

yes if a computer component gets too hot it auto shuts down to prevent damage, bit like what a bsod does but just switches off.
thanks for the recommendation mclaren, ill look into one of those cases.

That's a little something called Thermal Trip.
Say. If my proccessor went above 71.4C Thermal Trip will occur to prevent any damage. Thermal Trip, cuts out your PC, and usually there are 4 beeps. long-short-long-short.
