I have a geForce 6200 graphics card. and use Win XP.
when I try to load the Directx from the CD accompanying the graphics card I am informed that a file has not been installed because it does not comply with microsoft and the installtion is aborted.
Advice, please.

the first thing that i would try is downloading and installing the the latest versions of directx and your display drivers. You can download these from,
DirectX
http://www.microsoft.com/directx
VGA Drivers
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
if you download these and still have problems please can you let me know the exact error message you receive.

The DirectX driver from Microsoft ios for me a 2 hour download.
When I try to install from the CD with the graphics card the message reads:-
'the software you are installing has not passed the Windows Logo test to verify itd compatibility with Win XP ***** The software will not be installed.
'
In dxdiag, I read :-
The file nv4_dsp.dll is not digitally signed. you may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.
I am concerned that I cannot load the right software without recourse to a difficult download. because the CD accompanying my purchase of the Novatech graphics card is not compatible with Win XP

please see the below link for a little information on drivers signing.

when the error pops up does it give you the option to continue anyway? if it does clicking continue anyway will complete the install.

Unfortunately I am merely told that the software will not be installed. The only option is to acknowledge this message whereupon I am told that 'a required DirectX file was not installed.'
But in dxdiag under DirectX I read " No problems found" despite the message about the nv4_dsp.dll file. this may be a leftover driver form a previous GeForce graphics card.
but is the new card working at full capacity?

if the card that was in there before was also a geforce there is a good chance that this is an old drivers file. below is a link to a small nevidia driver removal tool.
http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-rip/
if you run this it will remove all the geforce driver files, old and new. once you have ran this if you reinstall the drivers from the new card and hopefully everything will be ok.

I get your point but I am scared that if the new driver still does not load I am up the creek. Unfortunately I do not think that I can isolate and save the old driver to CD as a back-up

If the new driver fails to support your graphics card then you can simply uninstall. The manufacturer has tested the supplied drivers and this should not be cause for concern.

even if you do not have drivers for a graphics card, you will still be able to use your computer, but the graphics card wont work, the screen will work becasue the cpu is doing all the work
go into control panel, nvidia drivers DELETE then reboot, the screen will go to a really low resolution, dont worry, change that in the setting when you right click on the back ground.
download new drivers from nvidia.co.uk or nvidia.com
then install
simple as that.

Sadly, no! But I find that I do have DirectX 9 on my PC and dxdiag gives it a clean bill of health !
