I have just bought a Novatech cable/modem Wireless Router and PCI card. The card installation is fine. However the router doesnt seem to work with my cable modem.
After setting it all up as per the instructions the Internet link light on the router continually flashes, which, according to the set up instructions, means a hardwear fault. Also on the cable modem (this is a NTL (Virgin) unit) the Ethernet, U/S and D/S light flicker on and off. When I switch my PC on I have no internet connection. If I use a wired connection via the router I do have a connection but very slow.
Am I missing something or am I doing something wrong. Or have I got a faulty router or is the cable modem to old (i've had it for about 4 years).

Any help appreciated.
Neil

Ok get this. Got my wifes laptop out and it connected straight away but still couldn't connect to desktop. Called the guys at Addon, got me to change one setting on the laptop and as if by magic the desktop connected. Not sure how that happened.
BUT if I log onto the desktop as a user no problem, but if my wife logs onto desktop - no internet!
And it now keeps asking me to connect to a dial up network???
Wireless! Is it worth it?

this on your desktop? sounds like you might have an old setup floating around somewhere in the system? i assume it hasn't got a modem in it/attached?

Neil,
I am slightly confused here, which router did you buy??

Are you dial up or cable??

And it now keeps asking me to connect to a dial up network??? your words

An adsl modem will not work with a cable modem and vice versa.

I think (at least some versions of) Windows can suggest this if for example you open a browser and it finds no other connection available.

I think (at least some versions of) Windows can suggest this if for example you open a browser and it finds no other connection available.

That is easily solved, if he is on cable he can go into internet options/connections in IE put a tick in never dial a connection the set as default.

Then in lan settings tick automatically detect settings.

If he is on dial up then that is different, it will ask him to connect to a dial up network.
