Just before the easter holidays my ICT teacher told me that i would need to change my website as i had designed it too similarly to someone elses, now when i looked at the other persons website i saw what he meant, only difference was he had 3 columns where as i only had 2 below is what my website did look like

Now i can do webdesign when i feel like it, but i thought this is just coursework so i was gonna stick with that and keep it simple, but seeing as he said it needed a few images and that i would need to change the layout slightly i decided to go all out and design a website that would make most of the other people in the class jealous :p

So here is the result of about and hour or 2 on photoshop and then in notepad fixing it all together, ignore the watermark it is there cause i dont want copying of it!

Now i think there is quite and improvement there, what do you lot think? :p

Looks good to me.. I would say though document it in your course work ;) I.e. mention that an initial design was put together based on how it was put accross in class (I.e. the spec).

Then in a section - mention that after feedback from the teacher ;) based on a comment that it seemed to resemble /echo another pupils work just by co-incidence a re-thinking of the design was sought.

Then go on to mention - that much web surfing ;) has given you a better understanding for design beyond that shown in class and in light of that you decided to use some of that recent learning to completely re-jig and make it more colourful to have a more visual impact on potential clients.

i find i you comment code and explain it all very well tutors wont ask any questions. The one you have made now is a big improvement what did you use to code it?

Looks OK but I personally think that over use of exclamation marks gives an amateur and childish tone to the page.

Just my opinion, of course..

Personally I think its pretty good for a school based project! Only comment would be that the top two columns can be a little confusing to the eye! Would be better to have a left column of say 30% and right 70% to keep the user more focused on the main content.

Otherwise good effort and keep it up with learning the art of web design!

yeah looks loads better but how about changing the navigation bar from images to text / css - will be much better for SEO. I'm just working on my new (personal) site now http://www.dean.co.uk

Dean it looks good, I like the colour scheme my self - it makes the site feel less dull unlike many corporate sites! Try to disable any links which go to non existent pages like the contact page and make sure the photo page fits in the contents of the site!

Also I would avoid having links to pages on both sides of the site as this presents some confusion to the user when trying to navigate the site! The general rule of thumb is no morethan 3 (ie 3 menus max 1 main 2 sub) clicks to a given page from the main menu and no more than 7 items on any one of the given menus.

Technically a rule in Web Design is to use the Goldon Rectangle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_rectangle). Put simply have ~65% of the screen as the contents part of the website!

Points taken mate and totally agree with you. I'm leaving it as is at the moment though as not really bothered so much about usability as its mainly only for my friends and family so will make them work harder :)
If it was a commercial site then of course, less is more as they say :)

Saw a link to your CV - don't make it accesible to anyone. Your CV will contain lots of personal information, might be nice for some dude to claim as his own and worse...

As the Underdog says CV is an area to leave off the site! You could leave certain aspects on their provided you take of addresses and any dates that link you to places! Best bet is "available on request page though"

Just some comments about your grammar. I know we always flame the 'Grammar ****' (and I don't comment normally !) but when you are presenting a commercial web site, be it for real or coursework, it is important.

'ConnectPPL.eu are an independant webdesign company who are based...'

No... you are only one company. ConnectPPL.eu *is* an independant *which* is based....

'We have a large list of clients which are constantly expanding....'

Who is expanding ? You or the clients ?! Make it clear. 'We have a large list of clients which *is* constantly expanding'

Typo on 'alternatively'.

If you can't spell or construct a sentence properly, I'm not going to hire you to represent my business. That's not being nasty or personal, I promise - just a pointer to let you know that most people think it is important.

Other than that, I really like your site - great work.

Yeah I agree with Neil, I must admit its not one of my strong area's either after hours of coding so I usually tend to hire a content writer to do it all for me :)
Noted on the CV guys and thanks for that, never really thoughts about it so will remove that :)
