no audio device

I've got a novatech laptop that has got a sound problem that has got worse over the last 2 weeks. At first sometimes when you turned it on there was no sound, if the NB was rebooted it would be ok but now that does not solve the problem if you access the control panel> sounds and audio devices. there is nothing there. Whats gone wrong?

yeah according to the device manager its there.
i've just gone through the trouble shooter and found out that the default device had changed but i've not changed. Is there any reason this would change.

I've just turned the laptop on and this time its gone from the device manager as well. :evil:
