Hi there,
Do Novatech sell any wireless PCMIA or USB Wireless proudcts that work with Linux (I mean streight out of the box kinda thing sutiable for a Linux newbie who cant use Ndiswrapper :P)

There must be some people here who use Linux and have a wireless card from here: the specs are not very specific on non MS O/S's

Im Running Ubuntu (well Kubuntu (which is Ubuntu with the Kde desktop with it) so it is basically the same/they use the basic same packages!)

Thanks a load in advance (as having a 30m cable being my "wireless" is not very fun!),
Rob

Get the make & model number and go check out the manufacturers website - you'll probably be doing this for instructions on how to install it anyway. A lot of stuff works under linux, but (atleast for me) it often comes down to how easy!!!

tbh, i am using a netgear wg511.

ndiswrapper is seriously not a big deal, and if you're willing to take an hour or so out, can be easily configured using the XP driver that comes with the card.

you may need to get the wireless network tools (plenty of rpm's around) depending on if this comes with the distro.

IN the end i went with a Belkin F5D7010 and it works like a dream streight out of the box on Ubuntu based things!

would that be the same with opensuse?

i've found opensuse can be a bit iffy with nics. it didn't even like my WIRED card.

ndis wrapper again still should work.

Ok well you need to find out chipsets for the cards/usb. For PCMCIA cards I know for a fact PRISM chips and orinoco cards work on ubuntu. Seriously ndiswrapper is not at all hard, on ubuntu you can use the synaptic package manager (you have to change repositories) and it will install it for you. But ubuntu has its own wireless capabilities, best try to plug in and see :)

If you or anyone wants to learn more, I have done this thousands (not literally) of times.
