I've been given an L51AIO to look at. The backlight has gone; you can see the display in good ambient light but it's very dark.

I'd like to look at it more closely before deciding whether to replace it myself or if it's worth sending off for repair.

I am very keen not to damage the case. Can anyone give any advice on how to get into it? I have had a quick look and have removed 6 screws holding the bezel in place on the screen, and unclipped the top and sides. I can't see how to get the bottom off as the hinge covers seem to foul the top of the keyboard surround.

Any advice gratefully received!

Cheers

I cannot advise specifically on that model, but generally you need a Spudger tool that will unlatch the top from the bottom once the bottom screws are removed
then you can usually unclip, the plastic around the keyboard which usually frees up the hinges for disassembly

there are online guides for disassembling laptops, you need to find out the ODM of your notebook then search it
www.notebookreview.com usually has some good answers there

if you are not that confident taking it apart, I would send it for repair

also are you sure you can independantly buy the backlight?, you may have to fit a whole screen.
