I'm sure I read about folding/SETI etc using a GPU before... I haven't been running the folding app lately but was going to give it another go. Would a 4890 crunch pretty quickly? I'd quite like to give it a go and compare to some benchmarks.

Ati cards are terrible folders at the moment unfortunately. Nvidia cards fold sooooo much better :(

As Jonny said above the Ati seems dismal in comparison, technically speaking in a folding fight my 8800GTS would pwn your 4890

And my dual 9800GTX+ would pwn you all. ;)

But I've been having a lot of dodgy wu's lately. Folding down to nil points

YAY! got one in just now! But the server's aren't taking my wu's in and are not giving me more. Connection failed messages now.

Hrm, I wonder why this is - has anyone found out a fundamental reason behind it?

Yeah probably the cuda in the nvidia drivers. It commonly known how much better the nvidia drivers are, such a shame as if the ati drivers could come close I feel they would push the cards into orbit lol, but alas not to be as yet.

There's a discussion about this very issues on the Folding@home forums right now.

The latest is that the ATI guys are "making progress". Once they solve it though, I can see the the ATI cards cranking out big points.

Yeah I really feel there is more in these cards not just in the folding, but in all performance, with better drivers they could have the edge over the competition.
