Hi all - wondering if someone could shed some light as this has me baffled.....

I am fitting a Dvd writer to a pc via an IDE cable. The pc has two IDE hard drives fitted to the mobo (80 gig) which the pc finds fine. Before I tried to fit this writer there was a liton cd writer fitted which functioned fine. When I try to fit the DVD Writer, I turn on the pc and it immediatly comes up with " Video mode not suppported" and sits there with a black screen.

If I disconnect the Ide cable and reboot it starts fine. If I use the same IDE cable but just fit the Cd writer it works fine. Sometimes the bios shows the DVD writer but the name is like goboldy **** and mixed up!

Ive tried 2 different DVD writer drives, changed the Master, slave, cable select settings and tried different cables,

Can anyone help?

Regards Trevor

Have you tried updating your BIOS? And are you using an 80 pin or 40 pine IDE cable?

Though... from the above i'd normally think the drive was broken, but if you've had the same result with two... could just have an incompatibilty with your motherboard or something.
