For some reason Vista decided to install the bootloader and the OS on two seperate drives, let alone two seperate partitions, without letting me know...

So after installing linux to what I thought was my spare partition my Vista bootloader has gone to the bootloader in sky (or as its MS the bootloader farm down below ;)).

Trying to use Vista's CD to rescue this sad state of affairs brings no joy with Vista not finding my vista installation... probably as the bootloader is missing.

Anyone know how I can recreate the bootloader but this time in a more sensible place (I can handle rebuilding my grub configuration so the vista one needs to go on the vista drive).

As you are happy with Playing with Grub, Try using Easy BCD

http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 You should find it quite easy to Use . MY Son uses it to have Mac OSX , Vista, Windows 7 and all other kinds of stuff booting between 3 or 4 drives

One wee problem; I can't currently get into my vista drive. Its the Vista boot loader which has gone missing so the usual windows selection menu (safe mode, differnet windows versions etc) is missing which means grub has nothing to talk to :(

Now fixed (lot of playing around with bootsect, diskpart and bootrec under windows recovery console and eventually leaving just the windows drive in the system while recovering)
