im going to upgrade AM2 but i dont now if this would all work together

Your could go for a conroe setup (core 2 duo)
Even the 2ghz conroes perform really well, about the same a AMD X2 4400

and go for the 7600gt. there is a relatively small proce difference but quite a gd performance boost.
