Hi I have a novatech 8355 about a month ago it did not boot when I pressed the start button only the fan runs held the button and tried again and it booted. It has got pregressively worse and I have worked out if I bend the laptop or squeeze if near the battery or put a coaster under the near side front leg and flex it, it will boot it only needs one flash out of the hardrive lead and it willboot when booted runs fine for hours pressume it is a dry joint or bad connection any information would help. Cheers Jim. PS can you please let me know how to split the laptop once you have all the screws out case is loose but don't want to force it. Cheers Jim :(

The 8355 service manual can be found here: http://mtc.mitacservice.com/visitor/fca ... =129802847 (http://mtc.mitacservice.com/visitor/fcabdl.asp?fid=129802847) (this should tell you how to open the machine up)

Other things to do with the 8355 can be found via http://mtc.mitacservice.com/ (due to the strange framing a direct link to 8355-specific stuff seems impossible)

Before updating your BIOS (if you decide to do so), make absolutely certain that your machine is an 8355, and not an 8355H. My 8355H says 8355 on the case, which caused me to install an incorrect BIOS update.

Note that opening up your case may invalidate your warranty, if it has not already expired. I don't have a list of warranty T&Cs, so can't say for sure. This might be a question better directed at Novatech Tech Support rather than the discussion forums, I don't know.
