Noisy fan in 8599 laptop

I have had a Novatech Matrix Pro laptop for just over 2 years (mitac chassis no. 8599) and for quite some time have noticed the very noisy fan which is on virtually all the time. I think it could have got slightly noiser in the past months, but is it normal for the fan to be on virtually all the time and sound like a light aircraft? It really is driving me nuts. I contacted mitac support some time back and they suggested i flash the bios. Does anyone know if this is likely to resolve the noisy fan issue?
