Which to choose? An AMD system with DDR, or an Intel system with DDR2?
I am considering a system upgrade and would like comments on the two memory types.
I'm interested in the AMD X2 chips, however I understand that no AMD chipsets support DDR2. Is this the case?

This is very much the case. AMD CPU currently do not support using DDR2. It is my current understanding that AMD will adopt the use of DDR2 but this will not be until the release of the new AMD Socket M2 Architecture and CPU's.

There is very minor differences between both types. DDR2 runs faster than DDR when it comes to FSB Bandwidth. DDR2 starts where DDR finishes with DDR400, 533 and 667. However in order to get these speed the latencies of DDR2 had to be increased. This in effect working against the increase in FSB. Where DDR2 will have its advantages will be in the overclocking and future applications designed to take advantage of DDR2 design.
Unless your system is going to be doing something that is seriously memory intensive then really it makes no difference as the differences between the two at stock speeds in most applications is so small its not noticeable. However memory intensive applications or overclockers would be better off using DDR2 now.

just for notice

corsair DDR2 1 Gb 667 sticks dont seem to work in intel or AMD M2 motherboards (corsair part number VS1GB667D2) hard to trace errors on ABIT IL8 and ASUS M2N32-SLI deluxe motherboards

took lots of time and money to trace back to the ram

I got those exact Corsair Modules in matched pair configuration.

They used to work like a treat in my motherboard, but i have faster DDR2 800 Pros in there now.

Try slapping the timings on 5-5-5-15 and see if they work, almost bump the voltage to 1.9 or 2.0 ;)

someone else mentions this in another thread on here :( the corsiar website on lists 1GB KIT (ie 2x512 modules) as compatible.
