what recording software are you using, Roxio? Nero?
with Nero, put on all the latest updates. Early version of Nero 6 didnt like Service pack 2 and had to have some updates

i've just installed a replacement drive that they gave me and its still coming up with the error in the exact same place.
Could it be a problem with the hardware not being compatable with my comp?

how have you got the drive set up is it the only drive in your system, what system do you have it may have a compatibility issue with your system.

Even though it is the only drive fitted have you confirmed the jumper settings are set to master on the back of it?

gonna try the drastic of drastic measures
gonne go for a full hard drive re-format and re-install everything again
the fact you have the same problem in two OS's makes me think its elsewhere, i'd probably be looking at reloading all bios defaults for starters though I don't think theres anything in there that would cause this.
I have an HP lightscribe DVD burner, won't burn DVD's when attached to one mobo, but is fine on another (i865 vs i875) and thats with just moving the HD across (not the best I know but...)

can the quality of the disc affect a DVD burner?
Scallyofwag

i've got it sorted now.
Apparantly it was a problem to do with the burning speed.
if i set it to burn at 10x or less it burns ok

I notice on your printout that the burning mode is set to 'track at once' (tao). Is this intentional as copies are usually made using 'disc at once'?

got it all sorted, burner was burning at a speed faster than the discs could handle
