Death9000, I've not seen many "bands" and probably none in the pop world. Possibly (although it's not really music I'd go in for normally) the most stirring I heard was the Black **** Mills Band live in Rhyl when I was say <10. The sound and power of these brass instruments was just amazing!

Glad to read someone else remembers and enjoyed this (I think in a strictly folk sense it would be reasonable to describe them as a...) supergroup.
Still, one must move with the times. Not sure I've ever been really good at that. I'm one with fond memories of Singing Together at school, songs at home with mum playing piano, etc. Still, as I suppose is common with someone of my age, the glam rock bit, the becoming more "discerning" at say 14 so some Pink Floyd and Genesis would be there, as would later Ian Dury and some punk...
I suppose the last time I heard a fair amount of chart stuff would be a time when the nearest pub to me had a juke box. I think I gave one before but don't think I gave this other I liked from that time:

She is incredibly versatile isn't she? !!!
Try one of a female singer I think has a wonderful (though perhaps to "refined" for my usual "folk tastes" voice. Suspect I've done a Judith Durham before but I don't think this one).

I cut my teeth on folk music, jonbanjo. I was lucky enough to see Al Stewart and Christy Moore in their Pomp. Still rate "Year of the Cat" as one of the most inspired songs ever. Kate Bush takes me to another place too.
But I think it's important to enjoy the current scene too. Lady GaGa and Taio Cruz are pushing Pop hard. It's good time music. And these are good times at many levels:

I don't know system7 and while your previous post did have an underlying beat I thought was quite "foot tapping", I can't (please, this is just my taste not criticising yours) say this one or a lot I hear these days does anything for me.
I don't think I've been completely static (although probably more grumpy than I was...) as I seem for example open to a wider range classical music for example than I would have been years ago. Maybe something else will come to me sometime...
Anyway, thinking classical and folk, this Jay Unger piece turns up a bit on Classic FM:

jonbanjo
16-12-2009, 10:55 PM
If me, yes, thatis right but they are owned by my parents and I.
One is a dedicated web server.
One is my PC in my room
One is for my parents stuff in their study.
One mostly records tv programs and unless they are watched, shuts down.
One is a backup machine that only fires up for say 10 minutes per day
One is a laptop that floats around.
None are expensive machines. You are looking at say 250 split 3 ways per year.
We don't call them rigs those. Rigs are things the great Robbie Burns wrote about, not the best version I've heard but eg.

Have another Waterboys one:
Y3ug3TU6HgQ
The tune near the end btw, is called Calliope House and was written by Dave Richardson of Boys Of The Lough. In the traditional session world where people gt to gether with flutes, fiddles, etc. it's a tune "everyone" knows, poss/pobably helped by the Waterboys but a tune that (at least to me who did learn it from hearing this record in a pub) always felt as if it just belonged.

Fever to me has a wonderful bass line which is a big part of the song.
Here's another (I think in this case picked electric rather than the double bass in fever) where a bass to me plays a strong part.

Found this. Julie Andrews and Peggy Lee are quite contrasting singers. Some of it, I think, is quite witty.
