HELP! SYSTEM NOT SHUTTING DOWN !

well im back with another problem...

I've noticed that when i shut down the system.. it goes though its usual shut down mode.. " windows is shutting down " * music * .. * screen goes black * ... system SHOULD shut down.... but infact, it carrys on running :!: :?: :shock: - The power/loading LEDS both go out, but the system stil runs.



Even when i click STANDBY mode.. my system would completly turn off, but just leave the power light flashing to say its on standby.. but now the system still keeps running ( cant get it back out of standby mode)



I just have to hold the power button now! Its only happened in the last 2 days. Apart from that, the sytem is fine.

Any help guys?

um, turn the system off by the mains :D
Dunno, u knocked or bumped the box in the last few days, u got any virus'

have you got any usb devices connected to the system? if you have it may be worth unplugging them to make sure they are not causing the problem.

Ive just done a full system scan, and nothing has been found.

Ermm the only USB's i have plugged in is my Keyboard & Mouse. But they have always been plugged in. :?

ummmmmmm.
Tried a format
defrag hard drives etc

try shutting down in safe mode.

if that works its simply a service or process in windows thats not getting killed properly when Windows tries to shut down - which can give you weird and wonderful results.

at least then you can go back in, kill a few processes in Task Manager (or take them out of your startup routine in msconfig, and weed the little git out.


if that DOESN'T work.....erm......"LOOK OVER THERE, PHWOAR!!!..........." *runs*
