New build advice - opinions?

This is about the top end of my limited budget, my current pc has just died and I am in need of a new one, my budget wont stretch to the greatest and “best” but im not after bleeding edge stuff and this is about my limit.

I posted something on pc specialist forums ( a novatech competitor) but the pc specialist reps were far from helpful, stating their product at that price point was un viable and out of date (?)

Im after something that can do a little bit of light gaming ( not talking about the latest cutting edge stuff ) a little bit of video editing - nothing too serous or heavy duty on, and something that could be upgraded if required, using the Novatech build thing I’ve come up with this - any thoughts/advice?

Edit ( cant find the edit button)

This is priced through Novatech at £1,093.62

the price is at the top of my budget, is this a reasonable set up for that budget?

I did come up with something similar on a competitor’s site ( pc specialist) and asked on their forums, and was told on their forums that at that price point PC specialist wont be able to offer a system with much if any support, and that systems at that price point from PC Specialist are not viable, overall throughts on that PC specialist support forum was that it was downright condescending and a little “snobbish” and far from helpful - and certainly off putting if you are looking to buy on a budget

I have purchased from Novatech in the past, and by and large ive been reasonably happy, the PC that i am looking to replace was this based on a bare bones bundle from Novatech, purchased June 2014 ( over 10 years ago!)

“1 x Novatech Barebone Bundle - AMD FX-8 8320 - 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz - AMD 970A Motherboard - Novatech Tower Case & 750w PSU

Can anyone offer any pointers on the above? is it worth waiting for black friday deals ( whenever that will be?) unfortunately I’m on a limited budget and dealing with a breakdown that needs to be replaced as opposed to an upgrade at a time to suit

Hey

Could you provide some examples of the games you would be playing. Games can vary quite a bit in requirements depending on what you like to play. So some title examples would be helpful along with Monitor resolution. A game at 4K needs a lot more power than the same game at 1080p so this just also helps gauge PC spec against your use case to see if its going to provide a smooth experience.

Thnaks for the reply

Games wise, mostly modest - emulators for things such as retro stuff from Dreamcast/PS2 and earlier, to maybe something like flight sim but only to dabble.

Resolution wise content with 1080p at the moment, but would be tempted with a little more/easy upgrade option at some point in the future

Well based on the above you should be ok for gaming up 1440P on titles that are not super graphically intensive and you are just looking for like solid 60FPS game play. Some of the more demanding titles could be offset however if the Game supports DLSS and Frame Generation to improve smoothness and experience. The only limiting factor here in this case could be the 8GB of VRAM but this once again will depend on title being played and will probably not be a concern unless you want to jump to 4K. Apart from that i think it looks good for what it sounds like you want to use it for. The Core parts of the system should be ok for a while as well as mostly tends to be the GPU being limiting factor these days. So should just mean potentially a GPU upgrade in the future when things starting to feel a little slow again. That is unless we see a massive step up in technology rather than the incremental updates we have had for a while now.

I would also be looking at installing a secondary hard drive would this be possible without affecting any warranty?

Hey, yes we have no issue with customers making additions or upgrades to system during warranty period. The only time this would be an issue is if customer upgrade is done incorrectly resulting in physical damage to the product which would not be covered by warranty. But other than that you are free to add things as you see fit. Just make sure to follow good practice when handling and installing electronics

Thnaks, still on the fence over this at the moment, looking more like this:

https://www.novatech.co.uk/savedbuild/b0bba18b-891c-43f9-b993-7edc9b951cde

Case :BeQuiet! Pure Base 600 Black ATX Case

Processor: Intel Core i5 14400F

Cooling: Arctic Freezer III PRO 240 Black All-In-One 360mm CPU Liquid Cooler or:

be quiet! DARK ROCK 5 CPU

Motherboard: MSI B760 Gaming Plus Wifi Intel B760 Chipset (Socket 1700) ATX Motherboard or

ASUS TUF Gaming B760-PLUS WIFI Intel B760 Chipset (Socket 1700) ATX motherboard

Graphics: ASUS NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Dual OC 8GB GDDR7 or MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ventus 2X OC 8GB GDDR7 Graphics Card

Memory: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5

Hard drive: WD Blue SN5000 1TB NVME PCIe 4.0 Solid State Drive

Power Supply: Corsair RMe Series RM850e (2025) 850W Cybenetics Gold Fully Modular ATX

Case wise, looking at that (Be Quit 600) as it offers a few bays for an optical drive ( still want/need one, which brings up the next question re the cooler - would the radiators for the liquid AIO cooler mean the removal of the 5.25 drive bays? Would the be quiet! DARK ROCK 5 CPU cover/block access to the RAM slots, mean that if i was to change/modify/upgrade the Ram this would be difficult with the be quite cooler? What other cooler in the same price range would work and not sound like henry the hoover?

s there any significant difference between those motherboards?
