Are we any closer to being able to download an actual BIOS update tool rather than the baffling manual instructions I was given a few years ago?
Hey, so the update method is not something that we control, this would be down the base chassis ODM and then again down to the core BIOS supplier such as AMI, Insyde etc. The capabilities of which change over the years. So brand new mainboards today use different tools and methods to update versus older product built using differing tech. The other issue of updates of how easy or hard come down to exactly what requires updating. For example for Clevo they will use a two differing flash one for the EC Module and one for the Main BIOS as they do not use combined so they are updated independent of each other which was the choice they made. The other issue with the BIOS part is if an MEI Update is required from intel as well and while these days its pretty seamless now for MEI in new gear in older stuff its a bit more work requiring the MEI to be unlocked prior to update then updated on its own prior to the main flash. So sadly no one tool solution ( Although this would be amazing ) and certainly not something that would happen for existing units as the method is already determined by how the flash modules are designed in the mainboard.
